This was part of an evening that was favored with several excellent examples. Nice deep amber/copper body with a foamy off-white head. Nose held strong pine and citrus hops laced with a sweet maltiness. That maltiness did battle with the hops in the flavor and lost the battle. This was not a balanced beer but that is not a negative. This is a full-blown Hophead’s dream. A refreshing, tasty, thoroughly enjoyable beer.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Bottle purchased at Capone’s and shared with Ty5592 at the bar- AND at the end of of the night. My notes are not very good, and that’s too bad because it I really enjoyed this beer. Pours a golden amber with nice white head. Fresh hoppy aroma of citrus and pine. Medium bodied bordering on a sticky texture. I get a rich toffee like malt backbone countered by piney hops, and perhaps a very faint hint of smoke esters. Nice amount of balancing sweetness. Long enjoyable, lip smacking bitter finish. thornecb (1779), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Pine and citrus aromas. Creamy caramel, pine and citrus. Lasting bitter finish. ryan (1778), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Smells a bit like unfermented wort. Too sweet for me right now sunevdj (1775), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Murky orange and brown with a white head.
Aroma is toffee and toast. Herbs and pine.
Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice. Not a whole lot more.
Medium body. High carbonatioin. Dry finish.
Better than I remember, but still not all that.
A couple of samples at the GABF 06. Amber with a small head. The nose comes across as just a mish mash of funk. Dirty even. Flavor is more of the same. Seemed kind of flimsy to me. Big let down. JCB (1768), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2007 Well, the fifteen varieties certainly do generate a massive aroma, floral and with a big citrus quality. Deep amber, with a modest head, it’s a lively looking beer that promises West Coast DIPA majesty. It mostly delivers, with an extremely aggressive taste - big surprise, right? Most of the hop profile is fairly acerbic, deeply resinous with the citrus/spice bite you’d expect from this brewery. But it’s slightly indistinct, lacking any kind of smoothness (not necessarily a problem in itself) and definining characteristics other than sheer balls. A fine experiment, an enjoyable brew, but somehow not top notch.
