Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Bottle, mine says 10.0% ABV. Slightly hazy orange colour with long lasting creamy white head. Pleasant aroma of hops and some caramel. Very hoppy taste (mix of hop flavours), dry and instantly addictive, superb body, alcohol well hid. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours a slightly orangish copper with a touch of a frothy white head that leaves a touch of lacing on the glass. Aromas promise grapefruit rinds and caramel malts with a bit of a pine bite to it. After first sip, I’m sold. This is really nice. The malt and hops are in perfect balance... there is a wonderful caramel body that supports heavily hopped opening and finishing salvos.

pours a muddled copper. aromas of malt and sweetened grapefruit juice. medium bodied thats enriched with some warmth . flavor is malt, honey and more grapefruit juice along with the skin. hops come through as floral and fruity, not piney. it’s not nearly as hoppy or bitter as i expected. almost disappointingly well balanced.minnesotans will be happy to know that furious is still better and it’s only got one I. 8/3/8/3/17

Bomber courtesy somebody from the Orlando crew. Cloudy golden color with a white head. Rich, aggressive pineapple hop character. Thick, sticky palate. Smooth start quickly gives way to a strong grapefruit hop character that spreads itself well thoughout the taste. Lingering grapefruit rind finish. Overall, a real nice DIPA, but not as aggressive as I thought it would be, but that ends up working in its favor.

(11/12/08) Bottle at Monk’s Cafe in Philadelphia. Hazy orange-amber color with a tiny white head that disappears immediately. Aroma loaded with hops, some flowers, citrus notes and some pine. Bitter hoppy flavor with some pine and grapefruit, a rather low malt profile and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied. Not too balanced but a good, tasty, DIPA.

Sampled at Lupulin Slam III, 2006. Darker clear amber with an off-white head. Great piney grapefruit hop aroma. Flavor is a total blast of fresh, vibrant hops - just an attack of pine, grapefruit and caramel. Pleasantly sweet, plenty of bitterness but not overly bitter. Full, round and creamy with moderate carbonation. Really good stuff!

Bottle. Pours a cloudy deep red/orange with a thick foamy white head. Aroma of citrus and grapefruity hops. Flavor of a nice malt/citrus balance. Sweet caramel malt with the citrusy hops. As I continued to drink though, the alcohol presence became more dominant and the beer became a bit sweet/heavy. I don’t think this beer is too bitter or too hoppy, it is too sweet! Anyway, pretty comparable to most of the IIPAs I’ve had and I wasn’t blown away by it.

750ml bottle. Hazy orange not much head. All hops aroma. All hops flavor. Clingy mouthfeel. Did not really like this one. Too much hops and nothing else.

RERATE: 750ml bottle. Amber color pour with a huge head that filled half the glass. Chunky head with lots of lacing. The aroma is heavy resin hops. The flavor is dominate by hops. The malt only appears in the finish. The malt appears more prominently as it warms. 8/4/6/3/16

RERATE: 2007 22oz bottle. Pour is a deep melon color with wisps of white on top and a ring of cream. Aroma is bitter hops with some doughy malt struggling to show itself. The flavor is all hops. The name is Hop-15 but it would be nice to have something to frame the hops, to showcase it. But I’m left wanting... 5/4/5/3/13
