Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Big time aroma, lots of resiny hops and some earthy malt. Deeper amber color, a bit hazy with a beige head. Very hoppy flavor, not as balanced as I would hope but still quite tasty. Medium full body, bitter finish, alcohol is pretty well-masked. A nice treat.

22 oz bottle. Murky brown that cleared with a thin balsa head. Pink grapefruit, caramel, toffee and roses. Yummy. Sticky with mild carb. Taste starts with a pine-orange punch; ginger-pepper bite. Smooths out, briefly, with lemon meringue. Bitter finish kicks in. Cucumber skins? HIdes it’s 10% well but sure can feel it. Kick ass stuff.

EBF. Pours a cloudy dark orange color with a white fizzy head. Nose is sugary sweetness, lots of citrusy notes, and hops. Flavors of fresh hops leap onto the tongue as the citrus explosion begins. A malt texture and character follow up to soothe the tongue from its hop lashing. The palate is lightly fizzy and playful, but with a hidden syrupy smoothness. Finishes lightly bitter and refreshing.

Cloudy dark amber w/ light brown foam. Complex & "profoundly" hoppy aroma of pine, grapefruit, mint, & leafy tobacco. Thick, syrupy feel. Big hoppy flavour w/ strong malt background but much simpler than the aroma would suggest. Long, dry, peppery, bitter finish.

22oz bottle. Hazy orange with a small, sticky head. Big fruity aroma with lime, grapefruit, mango, papaya, mint, and sugary sweetness. Tons of stuff packed in there. The flavor has a lot of sugary sweet malt that almost balances the massively bitter hops. Grapefruit dominates, but there are plenty of different hop nuances in here. Finishes long and bitter with some alcohol warmth. Full mouthfeel, with creamy carbonation. A little too sticky and sweet after awhile. Lots of nice flavors, but this is one to enjoy in smaller doses for sure. (3.7) Rerate: Rich hoppiness. The complexity and intensity of the hop flavor is almost ridiculous, but never gets to bitter or unpleasantly too intense. Still too rich to take in large doses. A pure hop sipper. (up to 4.1).

RAF. Another pleasing find. Hops galore. Super hoppy aroma with plenty of citurs, perfume and berry. A little thin, I wish there was a bit more malt to help balance. I would certainly drink this again.

This specimen pours a golden amber color w/ a modest, semi creamy froth that settles to a spattered pancake. Lacing is respectable. Nice and sticky w/ a partial canopy and a full ring. Aromas of full on gloppy malted caramel and flaming grapefruit. Full nectar w/ soft and creamy residual effers. It’s a malt bomb w/ a blistering hop profile to balance. You get your classic flavors of sweet malted caramel, leather, asprin, grapefruit, and charred citrus rind. Theres a mild sweetness that is enjoyable. Not real complex but very well balanced and the alcohol is hidden like a land mine. A strong flavored brew w/ a very generous disposition. One thing to mention is the sludge in the bottle. It’s thick. The finish is long w/ lingering citrus rind bittering. Like an asprin burn. Highly recommended.

Thanks to boboski for the taste. Big hoppy, pine, grapefruit aroma that just beats you in the head (in a good way). Pungent and spicy hop bitterness, but at no time did I feel like I could not drink it. This is just a wonderful beer.
