Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

This specimen pours a golden amber color w/ a modest, semi creamy froth that settles to a spattered pancake. Lacing is respectable. Nice and sticky w/ a partial canopy and a full ring. Aromas of full on gloppy malted caramel and flaming grapefruit. Full nectar w/ soft and creamy residual effers. It’s a malt bomb w/ a blistering hop profile to balance. You get your classic flavors of sweet malted caramel, leather, asprin, grapefruit, and charred citrus rind. Theres a mild sweetness that is enjoyable. Not real complex but very well balanced and the alcohol is hidden like a land mine. A strong flavored brew w/ a very generous disposition. One thing to mention is the sludge in the bottle. It’s thick. The finish is long w/ lingering citrus rind bittering. Like an asprin burn. Highly recommended.

Profound indeed. Sampled from a growler at DLD thanks to the generous sharer. Hazy orange color with a small head. Wonderful nose here, grapefruit, carmel, citrus, and pine bouncing between my elated nostrils. The flavor is similar with some earthiness and a nice balance between the hops and carmel malt. Great beer.

22 oz bomber. Pours a cloudy orange caramel with a medium white-beige head. Intense west coast pine and grapefruit aroma with a hint of pineapple. Taste is very hoppy with strong notes of pine, grapefruit, caramel, orange with a slight alcoholic finish. Very piney. Superb.

bottle from trade with Carny 77. Great aroma, sweet and bitter. Grapefruit, orange, pine, honey, grassy, Hazed brownish orange color, good head with ok lacing. Bitter flavor, Big grapefruit punch, some sweet maltiness. Medium body, lite creamy mouthfeel, Bitter finish. This one is right up my alley, the aroma covered alot of ground. Thought aroma had much more going on than the flavor.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy gold/orange with a very thin off white head. Aroma of citrus, pine and grapefruit. Flavor was well balanced between the malt and hops, with grapefruit and maybe apricots coming through. Medium/full body with moderate carbonation.

Courtesy WeeHeavySD. Growler. Amber with a small layer of white film. Full of juicy west coast hop goodness- tangerine, pine resin, past ripe melon, herbal perfume with just enough malt support. Full body, resinous balanced by carbonation. Very nice IIPA.

Appearance: It pours a hazy amber beer with a small white head. Not much lacework. Aroma: Very strong with reminiscence of quinces, blue cheese, hops and caramel. Flavor and palate: Syrupy. Nice bitterness. Beautiful hop profile which is balanced by caramel. Very long finish.

The aroma about solidified that I was going to like this from the start, with citrusy hops that lead into the full fresh cone-like aroma. The flavor is fresh and hoppy with enough malt to keep it nice. The flavor hints slightly at alcohol and I’d like a little less body to bump it up in score.
