Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

On tap at Ebenezer’s. Aroma strong of pine and citrus hops with the solid caramel malt base. Flavor pretty complex for a DIPA highlighted by more of the same, luscious hop presence without ever overwhelming the mouth with bitterness. Mouthfeel can get a bit syrupy toward the end after initial smoothness, but so long as you’re fine with a slower drinking beer, not a problem. 7-4-8-4-16/3.9
Rerate 7/22/08 Bottle. I sort of disagree with my first rating at this point. While the aroma is still nice with that citrus and hop presence, the flavor is just bizarre and overpowering. There is at the same time too much hop bitterness and too much malt sweetness. If by "balanced" you mean equal amounts of bitter hops and sweet malt, then it’s balanced, but it’s really not because the two do not work together and are both unnecessary extremes and parodies of themselves. Gets even sweeter and syrupier on the finish, really not good regardless of pace of consumption. Has some good stuff going on, but just doesn’t work.

22 oz. bottle - pours cloidy orange with slight head; piny aromas mixing oddly with bitter hops; malty finish doesn’t hide the high alcohol content; rather disappointed given my high expectations

On tap at City Beer Store in SF. Excellent west coast IPA. Clear golden-amber color, nice off-white head. Strong piney hop aroma. Flavor is piney, grapefruity hops, well balanced by a sweet malty backbone. Typical SoCal IPA hop character. Somewhat syrupy on the palate from the hop oils. This is up there with the best.

Bottle via trade with IrishBoy. Aroma initially of freshly crushed spruce needles. Citrus zest. Roasted sweet malt. The citrus takes a back seat as the beer warms and the malt becomes more present. The pine, however, is always at the forefront. Pours rich copper with a big frothy white head. Flavor of vibrant, bright, dry hops. Pine, tangerine, mango. Nice malty backbone. Creamy on the palate. Rich with lively carbonation. Quite nice, but lacks something, though... Thanks Richard!

Full, rich deep piney, citrusy, grainey hop aroma, that heavy deeply satisfying kind, that I had experienced with Deadnaught, and Devil Dancer, the kind you just get that mellow peaceful feeling just from having your nose in the glass, conjuring up thoughts of Mr. humuli’s sweet sister, the first mouthful was equally hop intensive, with a wash of sweet almost carmelly malt clamoring for attention, but soon overwhelmed by the bittering hops and a wonderful satisfying swallow, and a tasty little burp. There was a little thickness on the tongue, no doubt oil from the mass amount of hopping that went in to this. Little bit of alcohol started to be noticed in the middle. All this from a5 day old growler(thanks alafido). Fresh from the tap,its probaly a 5.0
