| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2004 acquired from cquiroga. hand bottled #431. My bottle reads 10.5%ABV. color is copper with a slight reddish tint. only a slight ring of a head. there is what appears to be a hop resin sheen on the surface...it's almost like there's been a petroleum release in my beer...i love it. at. 10.5%, there's next to no alcohol presence in the nose. aroma is very sharp on the pine, there is some caramel, but mostly sharp hops. Flavor is initially a surprisingly balanced combo of hops and malt. There is an alcohol burn on the tongue, but still mostly hidden. swirling this in your mouth just unleashes another round of pine. and i mean that in a good way. there are mild chocolate notes on the tongue as well. this beer is as sticky as any candy i've had. Not much lacework. Aroma: Very strong with reminiscence of quinces, blue cheese, hops and caramel. Flavor and palate: Syrupy. Nice bitterness. Beautiful hop profile which is balanced by caramel. Very long finish. SuzyGreenberg (1368), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 24, 2007 22 oz. bottle - pours cloidy orange with slight head; piny aromas mixing oddly with bitter hops; malty finish doesn’t hide the high alcohol content; rather disappointed given my high expectations ilovedarkbeer (1365), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2009 Pours a lighter copper color with a medium sized off white bubbly head. Nose is caramelized apricots, grass, pine, and earth. Taste is caramel, soap, dirt, and sugar. Mouthfeel that is smooth and rich is where this beer really shines. Finish is medium to long and there is a quite a bit of heat on the back end that is noticeable and astringent. I think the hops are helping to hide a well crafted but unexciting beer. pantanap (1354), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 27, 2009 Bottle, with Alaskanwarren and Traci. Copper with a bit of chill haze that goes away after warming up a bit. Lots of dense just off-white head. Musky citrus and mango aroma, green onion, nice touch of caramel. Fresh juicy hop flavor, lemony, pithy, brisk, a little vanilla sweetness. Very light and fruity, surprisingly drinkable for the strength. (And as it turned out later, a nice foil for a habanero-sauced burgers.) nickd717 (1348), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2009 On tap at City Beer Store in SF. Excellent west coast IPA. Clear golden-amber color, nice off-white head. Strong piney hop aroma. Flavor is piney, grapefruity hops, well balanced by a sweet malty backbone. Typical SoCal IPA hop character. Somewhat syrupy on the palate from the hop oils. This is up there with the best. HonkeyBra (1342), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 19, 2008 I am excited to get this in Chicago. Someone suggested this gave Pliny a run for its money. No, that’s not close. However, it pours a deep amber with a light, off white head. Aroma is spicey, citrusy, with sweet malt and a sugar cookie backbone. Flavor is bitter, with orange rinds mixed into a pastry sweet malt. Very bitter finish. But not unbelievable bitter. No sense of alcohol at all in the beer. This is an Awesome double IPA.
