Copper with a bit of chill haze that goes away after warming up a bit. Lots of dense just off-white head. Musky citrus and mango aroma, green onion, nice touch of caramel. Fresh juicy hop flavor, lemony, pithy, brisk, a little vanilla sweetness. Very light and fruity, surprisingly drinkable for the strength. (And as it turned out later, a nice foil for a habanero-sauced burgers.) JohnnyJ (1350), Carlsbad, California, USA

Bitter piney hops, resinous, grapefruit, floral, hints of spice, and bready malt. Somce caramel, and this beer is cleaner and easier to drink then expected. Very good. boto (1341), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 27, 2008 750ml bottle: This was bottle "285", from the original hand bottled series. Sampled 9-27-08. This had a cap and a cork in the bottle. Mine poured without any head on it at all. The color is a darker, orangish-amber color. I’m assuming that the hope aroma has diminished over time. It still has a very nice pine aroma to it, mixed with notes of citrus and caramel, although I’m not getting any sweetness. The taste is great. The bitterness had diminished almost to the point of non-existence. What has resulted is a mix of caramel, pine, grapefruit, other dark fruits. A touch of sweetness to the finish. Boy, is this great. I need to get a fresh one for comparison. fly (1332), austin, Tejas, USA

BITTER as a mofo. IN YOUR FACE and strong enough to quelch tears and stabilize (some) fears. Kept drinking it, kept liking it. My mind was racing through each and ever hop and euqting it with some fragment of my life - this one the old homestead being lost, this one my brother dealing with matters, this a picture from decades ago, this one my dead mother and so on and so forth until I suck the last lingering drop from the bottle.
Doug, can’t thank you enough. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA

Excellent resinous hop flavor, so smooth but so palate destroying. Great balancing malt flavor and bitterness. Low perceived alcohol. There is a small metallic note but this is otherwise a world class ale. kwoeltje (1325), Manchester, Missouri, USA

Grapefruit, peach, and nectarine aroma. This IIPA has a decent hop bite, lots of grapefruit, pine, and resin balanced by a vanilla cookie malt backbone - I couldn’t ask for anything more out of an IIPA. Very creamy mouthfeel and mildly carbonated. Fantastic. scrizzz (1320), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 29, 2008 Grassy meadow notes with orange and pineapple in the nose. hazy orange with brown in the edges and a creamy 2 finger head that settled to a dense 1/2 inch. beautiful. more sweet ripe orange in the sip with mango and passion fruit, and a swirl of bitter intensities in the finish. the solid malt foundation approaches sticky but is scrubbed down by the abrasiveness of the hops. This really is amazing.
