Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Crushed with Jakebra. Big hops on the nose. Excellent. Flavor has huge malty sweetness, a little too sweet. But the finish hits wicked hard with hops. Makes it excellent.

Bottle from Binny’s Lakeview. First of all, I don’t think this is fair. Mine had little carbonation, which sucks. But, from what I could gather, this is pretty kick ass. Not enough malt in my opinion to hold up the alcohol burn. For me, if you’re pushing the double digits, I need some dry, biscuity malts to prop it up. Other than that, tones of pine, citrus and bitterness. Basically, a bigger, meaner, darker version of Wipe-Out. I need a fresh/carbonated bottle...

From a bottle poured dark amber with a lot of head. Nice strong hoppy flavor with a lingering finish.

22oz bomber. Pours a deep dark honey color. Little to no head on this brew. Smells sweet with a hop spiciness in the background. Tastes hoppy, of course. Very hoppy, lots of hop bitterness. Grassy. Palate is thickish, with that great hoppy bitter pucker. The bitterness gets to you after a while. On Cask, 11/17/07 @ Churchhill’s. Pours a murky reddish brown color. Some floaters near the bottom. Foamy head with good retention. Caramelly hop smell. Caramelly and earthy hop flavor with a touch of sweet over ripe citrus. Alcohol on the finish. Thickish but smooth, with a bit of alcohol bite on the finish, very little carbonation. Good beer. Very different than what comes out of the bottle. Apparently Tomme sat on this cask for a bit. Probably would have been better fresh.

22 oz bottle via trade (thanks hellbilly!). THis one pours a semi-hazy amber with a large beige head. Nose is orange, apricot, pineapple. And it tastes like orange, apricot, pineapple, subtle grapefruit and a tiny bit of pine, and even a little spiciness, likely from the hops. This all sits on a very nice malt backbone that gives it a full body and a nearly syrupy mouthfeel. Carbonation is medium to moderate. A very nice IIPA that is hoppy but not TOO bitter and is balanced just right for an IIPA..meaning the hops take center stage, as they should!!!

Pours a golden amber with a white head with a cloudy body. The flavor is hoppy, but not overly so. Very piney and goes down smooth. Recommended for all.

After popping the cap, the floral and pine spilled out of the glass...reminiscent of crisp mountain air. I’m not sure how you can rate the appearance less that perfect. A thick frothy pale yellow head sits perched atop a murky blood orange body. Lacing coats the glass all the way to the last sip. Strong grassy notes and pine begin your ride, then soften to ripened citrus. Fairly well balanced and drinkable. Would do again for sure!!!
