Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Growler generously shared by Ughsmash. Many thanks to WeeHeavySD as well for trading with him to make my own rating possible! I should just write, "WOW, my new favourite IIPA! Gotta get some more!". One of the things I found so interesting was the abundant use of dark specialty malt. It really seemed to be above and beyond what I’ve tasted in other IIPA’s. The color was a very rich and deep copper hue and the dark malts also added a wonderfully complex roasted character. The hop profile on this was a masterpiece with layers and layers of aromatic qualities that left me just sniffing this one for awhile. 15 different hops and you can spend all day trying to pick them out. A generous malt backbone beautifully balanced out the high alpha acid content and had its own unique tapestry of flavours making this a treat to guess the makeup. Toss in the fact that the 10.5% alcohol is expertly hidden and you’d swear this could be a session brew. Wow, thanks again Jason and Jon!

Growler @ DLD thanks to bgburdman: Poured a hazy copper color with an off white head. Aroma loads of citrusy grapefruit hops, some lemon, pine, and a caramel background. Flavor, some pale bready malts up front with a delightful citrus and piny kick on the end. Nice bitterness, great stuff.

Extreme as defined by the incredible amount of aromatic hops used. Port Brewing did no focus on anything, literally transporting us into a vortex of grassy, herbal, floral, piney, perfumey, leafy nose saturating hops. More than adequate malt base gives it the necessary caramel, cookie and honey sweetness to deal with it. The blending of both monsters create a fruity and surprisingly smooth animal of litchi, tropical fruits, apricot and pepper that takes life in the form of a medium and slick body, of surprisingly engaging carbonation. Strong alcohol accentuates the oily resin feel, but the carbonation dealt with it gracefully. A masterful execution of a too good to be true undertaking. Thanks Bartzilla!

Thanks to SamuraiArtist for this one! Pours a great orange-copper IPA hue. Full frothy head. Nose of topical fruits and warming malts. My palate was pretty beat up when I tried this but it was still quite quaffable and standout.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are rich with both flowers, cascade hops and very well balanced with some caramel, sugar and citrus.

Hooray, so tasty. I went back four times at the EBF. Light citrusy flavors, piney finish. Crisp. Hoppy without being too bitter. Orangey pour. So so tasty, but as someone from San Diego I may be slightly biased. But I don’t think so. It’s an excellent hoppy beer.

BottlePours a hazy golden with a good lasting white head. The head is a touch creamy and fails to lace. Has a wonderful hoppy aroma of citrus and pine. Has a good acrbination and an awesome mouthfeel. The hoppiness is alive in the flavor, my tongue is going crazy. Has a medium body. This is blended great and tends to hide the alcohol well. Has a great finish. From opening to finish this is one awesome beer.
