Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Bottled. Amber coloured. Hazy. Off white fluffy head. Sweetness, pine, herbs, spice, citrus and caramel in the aroma. Flavour of pine herbs, flowers, light grape, spice and light alcohol. Full bodied. Very dry. Heavy bitter end with a spicy and acidic touch. Intense alcoholwarmth on lips and palate. Very refreshing and matches my Chili con Carne perfectly.

Bottle. Pours a slightly orangish copper with a touch of a frothy white head that leaves a touch of lacing on the glass. Aromas promise grapefruit rinds and caramel malts with a bit of a pine bite to it. After first sip, I’m sold. This is really nice. The malt and hops are in perfect balance... there is a wonderful caramel body that supports heavily hopped opening and finishing salvos.

Pizza Port, Solano Beach 4/05. 750 ml Bottle. #171 Amber with massive rocky head. Prominant hop oily aroma. Taste well balanced with a good malt backbone with good bitterness without going overboard. Excellent 4/06 Side by Side Tap comparison with Lou P Linn. Hop 15 darker with much more prominant hop aroma. and more malt backbone. Lou P LInn with a more refreshing hoppy citrus/grapefruit taste. Hop 15 is much more complex, but I love refreshing beers.

This beer really did it for me. Beautiful hopping. Smell and taste were very pleasant. So present, yet so well behaved were the hops. Yet, it doesn’t linger in your mouth like many other hopped up brews. I could drink this all day long.

On tap at Solana Beach. Pours light amber in color with decent off-white head. Lots of citrusy hops in the aroma and also caramel malt. Beautifully hopped (15 varieties, so they say), but not over the top. Balanced with maltiness. Even though 2% higher ABV than their Lou P Lin, much less apparent. I love this beer!

Hallelujah, praise the lord and satiate my slobbering mouth, thank e very much. This heah is some goooood beer. poured with a grand off white head that lasts and good lace. Color is a slightly hazy yella. Flavor’s outstanding; fully hopped and the malt to stand up to it. Body is full on with enough carbonation to offset the power of the alcohol, sweetness, and hops. Finish is tasty but boozy. A beer to be reckoned with. Proly not to be consumed bottle after bottle. amen.

From a bottle at SB&WF. Hazy orange, medium off-white head. Fresh hop aroma with pine needles, apricots, and citrus. Medium bodied and smooth. Wonderful long bitter finish.

I thankfully have 2-22 oz. bottles of this wonderful beer courtesy of Secret Santa & The_Epeeist. Pours a cloudy orange gold with a moderately large linen white head that lasted through most of the glass and left partial lacing. Huge aroma of grapefruit and pine, but the citrus is much stronger than the pine. The flavor is equally good with a solid, strong malt backbone to support the powerful citrussy hops. The bitterness of the hops is strong, but not overwhelming, and balances well against the sweetness of the malt. This is a delicious beer, and I am very glad I have a second bottle on hand!
