Very, very, very hoppy... but not in a painful way. smells like hops and cut grass. a tongue-drying bber and a hop-head’s favorite. ratman197 (3256), Arvada, Colorado, USA

Aromas of pine, grapefruit and carmel. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, pine and a hint of grapefruit with a smooth bitter finish. Naven (878), Poway, California, USA

I haven’t had this in at least a year, only because everytime I have been to either of the local PP locations, it hasn’t been on tap. Anyway, Mr. Lou P. Lin rocks. Color, smell and taste are nearly idnetical to Pliny the Elder, and believe me, that’s quite a compliment. This beer was so floral and hoppy, It actually smelled like a bag of fresh marijuana. Beautiful. It’s light, not syrupy, as is the case with so many IIPA’s these days. It’s powerful stuff, but at the same time, it’s a great summer beer to have by the ocean, as I did this afternoon. droopy49 (97), Lancaster, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 12, 2006 On tap at Solana Beach PP on 7/01/06. This poured a nice amber color with a descent fluffy head. Good hoppy aroma with notes of citrus and pine. Flavor was malty and bitter. Good caramel maltiness followed by a lingering hop bitterness. The maltiness and hoppiness seemed to battle to a tie in this one. Bitterness was not overpowering, much unlike the double simcoe IPA I just rated. It good to have a well-balanced IIPA once in a while, but hoppy bitter ones are still my fav! trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 5, 2006 Yum. My kind of IIPA. Pours foggy gold with a thick white head. Good lacing. Floral aroma with a good amount of grapefruit, pine, and lemon. The initial sip is incredible; full of resin, pine, and citrus hops. The malt takes some of the edge off of the bitterness without taking away from the taste. Long bitter aftertaste with some stickiness. One of my favorites. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 4, 2006 Handbottle Aroma is a sultry warm cream of tangerines, lemons, oranges, rich spiced Cascades, Warrior, Hood and Centennial Hops. Lucious and very liquid. Elements of gravity and lavisciousness. Pour of clouded orange centered yellow, with a head of white and copious carbonation. Flavor is a soothing creamy melt of the fruit bombasting my palate. A deft hop build, with explosions of citrusy resins, mild creamed malts mingled with hopfully generous fusels and a nice smacked dry bite of almond skins and pear stems. The body is great, with plenty of middle malts building a glorious platform for the sacrifice of many hop cones. Palate is full, with a creamed sherry fruit mouthfeel and a nice balance on the backend. Again, well balanced. Finish and smack dry parchingly, but with the sweet perfumes of a lemon drenched gin. Thanks Andy for this rare opportunity. It traveled well! RAYBOY01 (1868), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 20, 2006 Absolutely enormous grapefruit nose...with pine resin lurking just around the corner. Flavors of caramel malt sweetness trying desperately, and failing miserably, to balance the huge grapefruit, citrus, and floral hop assault. Very sharp and lingering bitter astringency on the tonsils. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 9, 2006 On tap in Solana Beach. Slightly hazy, caramelized hay colored pour with a nice helping of creamy white froth. Scents of white grapefruit and honey waft from my glass, along with some floral notes of carnation petals. Crisp, hoppy bitterness instantly floods over the tongue with a light sparkling texture thats a perfect compliment to the incredibly hop biased balance. Fairly straight forward - bitter white grapefruit rind on the palate that is softened by some raw sugar. A little bit of sour white grape rind as well. Not overly complex, but delicious, refreshing, and an overall excellent example of this style.
