On tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy yellow with a foamy white head. Huge grapefruit aroma followed by pine. Taste follows with astringent hop bitterness that lingers long after swallowed.

Draft at O’Briens. Pours hazy amber orange with a morderate beige head and some lace. Aroma is crisp hoppy, hoppy, hoppy with grapefruit, bit of pine, rich fruity malts and sweet orange juice. Hoppylicious flavor, very hop dominated and spicy, with grapefruit and rind, pine and lemon creating a hop explosion along with undertones of sweet malt, then fading to pepper and pine resin in the finish. Full body, agressive carbonation. Wow, a hop blast!!!

Tap @ brewery. Cloudy, honey colored body with a white head leaving rings and sheets of lace. Body is lightly sparkling. Aroma is sweet! Tropical fruit, grapefruit, honey, floral, honey-comb, orange. Body is medium with lots of foamy carbonation--DRY!(caps, underlined and !). Lightly mouthwatering. Flavor is floral! Honey, crazy fruitiness--passion fruit? Guava? HUH!? Grapefruit, a touch of pine, yeast. A major drawback...as time went on...this astringent pine/alcohol flavor that tasted horrendous began to creep in and wreck an awesome beer. =\ Ick! Drink it fast baby! If that nastiness got out...this would be a phenominal beer.

Tap @ PP Solana. Cloudy golden yellow w good head & fair lace. Aroma of amazingly fresh piney resinous hops & rich creamy lightly roasted malt. Flavor is rich, fresh, semi-sweet malts with grapefruit, balanced perfectly with the potent hops. Somewhat viscous. Hop burn & bitterness not as pronounced as hop 15, which fit this offering well. Very nice, clean, fresh, high quality stuff. Full bodied, alcohol very well integrated in, did I say perfectly balanced? I kept coming back to Solana for more and I didn’t want to stop drinking it. Perfect with pizza. Damn this was good!

Draft at PP Strong Ale Fest ’05. Golden yellow and hazy. Huge very fresh grapefruit hop aroma, with some of sweet caramel. Big fresh citrus grapefruit hoppy flavors, balanced well with sweet caramel malts. Smooth and super drinkable. Insanely good.

9th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Fest: Hazy yellow color. Huge fresh grapefruit hop aroma. Almost covers up the caramel malt. Hop flavor is huge with only a mild bitterness. Very very tasty and nicely balanced as far as drinkablility goes.

I had this last night at Pizza Port’s strong ale fest in carlesbad (on tap). Thanks to elnadeau for urging me to try this beauty, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Poured slightly cloudy with a HUGE mastadonic head. Nose had a bit of funk with strong pine tones typical of a double ipa. Flavor had a complete hop profile with an emphasis on dank and darker hop flavors. Yummy.

Big thick resiny hops and a greasy tan head on a translucent orange body. Tons of grapefuit, pine, orange zest, spruce, caramel, and pineapple. Thik mouthfeel jsut backed it all up and made this a very satisfing DIPA. Hop Syrup.
