lb4lb (1365), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 3, 2007 Rich sweet, roasty, malt smell with a bit of coffee and chocolate scents. Opaque, deep reddish pour with absolutely ZERO head. I tried to kick up some foam and this pours like colored water. Taste is a creamy richly flavored sweetness with a pretty big bitterness for the style. Again, almost no carbonation at all, and it just feels watery and heavy at the same time. Flavorful I guess, but I didn’t care for what there was, and the lack of carbonation really makes this unpleasant. A huge disappointment and vastly overrated.
jsh12bama (211), Alabama, USA Aug 18, 2008 Draft @ Lost Abbey. Amber color with off white head. Aroma of malt and nuts. Thin mouthfeel. Just OK. DA (2389), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Aug 16, 2008 RBSG 2008. Pours a nice red/copper with a soft off-white head. Lots of warm caramel flavors up front that balance well against the crisp citrus hop finish. Very nice all-around drinker. RunDWP (152), San Jose, California, USA Aug 14, 2008 On tap. Subtly nutty, a little roasted malt, smooth and mellow. Some light hops. Surprisingly subdued flavors with some balance. dogfish120love (45), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Aug 11, 2008 wow it does have quite a bit of a hop bite. spicey red ale with an amazing taste. I usually do not drink amber/red ales but this is worth giving a try. jasonp (1441), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Aug 10, 2008 Sampled at Lost Abbey, RBSG ’08. This beer will hold a special place in my heart because it was the one that helped get rid of my hangover just before the Lost Abbey guided tasting. Onto the beer itself...pours a dark, clear bronze with an off-white head. Toasty, toffee nose with a touch of grapefruit/hoppiness in the nose. Flavor notes of caramel, light pepper, toastiness, faint raisin then a solid grapefruit zest-like hop bitterness with a tinge of pine. Medium bodied with a pretty lively level of carbonation. Overall, a solid drinkin’ beer.
