On tap at Port Solana Beach. Killer stout, I really like it. Wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out but it was very good. Very dark with light tan head. Moderate roasted barley with some chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is full of a VERY balanced amount of roasted barley, chocolate, vanilla, and a slight bit of coffee. Very thick and viscous. I thought this was terrific. Terrific creamy mouthfeel, very smooth. Very good hop characteristics. You don’t notice the hops, but there’s a certain background spiciness from hops. I really liked this.

From the Jug at the GABF, Colorado Convention Center 12/10/2007 Roast aroma. Small beige head. Black and smooth on the palate with a crisp and slightly bitter coffee roast finish.

Draft at Solana Beach. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt and roasted malt as well as lighter notes of soy sauce, wood, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt, lending it a bit of acidity, but also with notes of sweet malt.

GABF 2008. Black, oily pour with a brown head. Much more straight roast aroma than the resurrection sampled just prior, earthy-clay, chocolate, subtle smokiness. Dense and velvety mouthfeel, hint of fruit acids in the finish. Fantastic.

A tasty stout, but pales in comparison to the big boy on tap (the Tovarish). It has a nice mouthfeel, full bodied yet very smooth and drinkable. You can taste and feel the alcohol, but it doesn’t feel like a heavy beer. Lots of smoky richness, deep malt and spice.

Black beer with an off-white head. Roast and caramel aroma. Caramel, roast, light fruit, chocolate flavor. Medium body. Caramel lingers with light roast, chocolate, and light fruit.
