| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Dark gold body with a lightly off white head. The aroma is earthy with some bananas and light caramel. There is also some earthy leather. The taste is fairly sweet with gingerbread and caramel. There was also some vanilla ice cream. Finishes with that vanilla note in a pleasing way. leeburg (149), Juneau, Alaska, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 15, 2008 Slightly cloudy orange with a fizzy and rather quickly diminishing white head. Light grain, grassy, bit of lemon, bit of metal. Virtually no lacing. Salty and very light sweet initial flavor, definite grass, light hop and average fizzy metallic finish. More malt and alcohol presence as it warmed. Doppelbock, really? Hmm. EithCubes (2146), Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 18, 2008 My 500th German lady, and the 50th rating for this brew. A very poetic bottle. Lovely DB nose, figs and brown sugar, dry grape-soaked malt with a touch of musty yeast and indeterminate berry. Sweet with some tripel character: touch of vanilla and banana, but neither is particularly prominent; honey and bread. Pours a hazy golden with a lovely, lusciously lacing rocky beige head. Creamy, smooth, malty medium body with way too much booze showing through. Otherwise, a classy, silky malt bomb with the yeast and noble hops kicking in just enough dryness at the end. Fruity with the faintest hint of grain. I suppose this is expanding on a Maibock? It sure is pushing the boundaries of a Doppelbock. Yum. JPDIPSO (4906), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 12, 2008 Smallish off-white head atop a lightly hazed amber colored liquid. Big malty aromas. Caramel, wheat, light toffee and toasted malt in the scents. Some mild floral and husky corn in the back distracts a bit. Sweet caramel start with some mildly musty grain seeping in. Fairly sweet throughout. A lot of floral hops flavors in the middle that carry into the finish. While the aromas suggest malt depth, I’m not catching them in the flavors. Actually quite light in flavor for the heft of this one. A bit sneaky in the EtoH department. Tastes more like a strong oktoberfest. Perhaps I like this more than my score indicates, but I was in a dopplebock frame of mind coming into this one. emacgee (1872), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 11, 2008 Thanks turd for sharing. Pours a hazy golden orange with a one finger creamy tan white head. The nose is earthy, hay, definitely lager characteristics present, banana. The flavor is earthy, ligithly sweet, a tad grassy. Light hop bite in the end of the flavor and finish. Not too bad. I didn’t take any notes on this one but it wasn’t very memorable either. I won’t do you a disservice and come up with some totally bullshit aromas and flavors that i smelled and tasted. But I am rating this sucker. Tick-tock.
