The flavor is sweet, malty, not a lot of hops at all. This is strange, since the finish leaves a good amount of hoppyness on the palate. The mouth fell is not thin, but not that thick for a double bock. Decent beer. This is similiar to, but not as good as the Paulaner Salvator. Illini08 (528), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

Roasted malt and some light caramel/toffee sweetness in the nose. Flavor was similar, but seemed very simple and a bit thin. Decent and easy to drink, just nothing special. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Cloudy amber color, small white head that faded quickly leaving nothing behind. The aroma was malty with some slight hints at fruit, some caramel or toffee and maybe a bit of sweetness in there as well. The flavor was a bit weak light malty taste some hints of fruit in the beginning, and an overall thin feel.As the brew warmed up a bit there seemed to be a bit more flavor.....the fruit side came on a bit more with a dried fruit taste some slight hints of caramel and a mild bitterness in the end.The alcohol manages to stay well hidden. Not bad i guess, could use a bit more flavor but ocer all it goes down smoothly....good summertime brew. tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Bottle. Sweeter chewy toffee malt initially on the nose. Malt heavy with a touch of earthy funk. Pours a hazy gold.copper. Flavor has lots of toffee malt, dry earthy hops, some spice and dried grass. Medium bodied with a lasting dry earthy finish. iowaherkeye (1872), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2008 500mL bottle, no date. Clear amber golden with a creamy one finger off-white head, fading to a thick ring after a little bit. Aroma of toasted grain, sweet honey, and some light stale biscuits. Flavor is a little more caramelly with some alcohol picking up midway through to the dry finish. Bitterness peaks at a 2 here. Low creamy carbonation with a pretty full body. This to me wasn’t a whole heck of a lot better than a malt liquor, which is more closely the category I’d put it in. A bit disappointing. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2008 Bottle, pours a hazy medium honey gold (maybe a bit heavier gold) with some orange-amber, white with a few off-white bubbles place a head on top that quickly flattens to a ring, nice effervescence and lacing on the glass, there was a very thin layer of sediment on the bottom of the bottle, aromas of bready malt with lots of sweetness, faint light fruit and honey sweet fragrances in the background, malt and bread flavors with a short lived sweetness, has a faint lemon citrus flavor with a twinge of herb-pepper at the finish, pepper taste hangs arounds a bit on the palate, faint alcohol was felt in the background but you have to pay attention to it to notice, medium mouth feel maybe a bit more viscous but the carbonation did not appear to be overladen in this brew, has more pepper and bitterness at the finish then I was expecting but this is a light version of a doppelbock, not a bad drink, very easy to drink, this is the fourth Plank beer I have tried and so far all of them have been better then average, hope some more of their beers make way to my area. notalush (2683), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2008 This is a tiny bit under-rated - hazy, honey-colored beer, with almost no head, despite its fizzy body - pretty nice heller bock aroma, with soft floral notes, hints of honey, faint spicy hops, overripe fruits - fairly clean, and dangerously drinkable for its strength - a nice clean cane sugar and honey sweetness makes way for some floral/herbal flavors, and some bright fruity character - hops swell up from behind all of that, giving the finish a hop bite - a little of the alcohol comes up in the finish, but otherwise this is a nice, clean, simple beer, with a little kick.
