The fruitiness of the yeast is unique, the alcohol content is a swift kick in the ass, and the flavor is perfect. SSSteve (2104), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Pours a nice clear orange/dark golden, with a nice white head. Super dense sweet malt on the nose with a good dose of banana and ripe fruit. Great creamy mouthfeel with a good dose of floral hops on the mid-palate. Nice toffee and biscuity sweet malt. Looking at Styles review I have to agree with the Okt fest comment. As far as tipicity this beer is run of the mill, but as far as just good or bad it is a very nice beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 15, 2007 A very nice bock. Different from the thick and heavy doppelbocks I have had recently like Andechs, but almost as good. Simple but good straightforward malt, fruit, and caramel aroma. Fairly thick for the style. Flavor has more malt and caramel. Sweet. Dark gold color and just a little hazy with a substantial white head. maxwellplum (54), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 24, 2008 A nice light drinkable beer. 500 ml bottle pours a nice head which quickly dissipates. Some yeast haze in a golden straw colored brew. Little to no lace, with some citrus in the finish. Also a nicely bittered finish. Good stuff Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 13, 2007 Dark golden-amber with highly carbonated white head. Aroma dominated by whole grain toast. Hints of caracmel/toffee and fruity esters but hard to pinpoint. Flavor much the same. Grainy, caramel/toffee. Faint smoky character to it. Some aged euro-hops near the finish. Know it states doppel, but get alot of octoberfest-like IMO. Could be a tad more carbonated. My tolerance has diminished or this thing packs a punch. I fnot for price, would make a nice fall session brew. willblake (2191), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2007 20071020 1pt 9 oz bottle. Hazy amber color beneath mediium-small white head of tight white foam. Light fruity aroma with bready yeast notes and a bit of fresh grain. Body is medium in heft and tending toward slick rather than the sticky I expected. It’s nice, softly effy, and generally making me think more of a hopped-up maibock than a doppelbock. Finishes somewhat dry with lingering notes of raisin bread and emerging citrus potpourri (retro). Pretty good stuff. I’m glad that these Plank beers haven’t been a big disappointment considering their hefty price tag (all $4.79). Reading down the few ratings before mine it’s amusing to note that nobody quite agrees that this is doppelbock, yet neither do they agree on what exactly it is.
Bitterness increases with temp and now hop burps! Man this stuff is really growing on me.
