maeib (3816), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England May 4, 2008 Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel, Northampton. A light amber coloured beer with no head. The aroma is malty and fruity with notable alcohol warmth. A fruity taste with alcohol again. Lacking body really though for its strength. No more than ok.
Magic_dave6 (3476), Glasgow, Scotland Apr 21, 2006 Malty, lightly fruity aroma. Taste is similar alcohol having a wee say too. Not really my style of beer. DJMonarch (4091), Northwich, Cheshire, England Feb 19, 2006 1. Cask Stillage at the Metropolitan Cathedral Crypt, Liverpool 22/02/2001
Smooth on the palate and malty.
2. Cask Handpump at the Bar Fringe, Manchester 09/04/2004
Mid brown amber coloured and strong in alcohol. Slightly bitter full malt finish. imdownthepub (3937), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England Aug 29, 2005 Cask Conditioned at The Tap & Spile, Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales. Brown amber beer with a whisp of a head. Murky unremarkable and sour beer, which is probably as much to do with the way the beer was presented at the pub. Strong alcohol resonance with a sweet malt base. Past its best. Sigmund (1830), Hafrsfjord, Norway May 31, 2005 Cask conditioned at the 32nd Cambridge Beer Festival 2005, gravity dispense. This beer was described as an "old ale styled beer" in the festival programme, but the brewery website describes it as a "strong bitter". Colour is reddish brown. Excellent complex aroma: dark fruits, sherry, oak, butterscotch, hints of ensilage and new-mown grass. Fairly sweet oaky and malty flavour, some caramel and dusty hops too.
