Commercial Description:
Point Einbock is an authentic Maibock Style Lager. There are many stories as to how Bock beers were named. Some assert the origins date back to the north-German town of Einbeck. Others maintain that "bock," the German word for "goat," relates to the "kick" of some bock beers. This seasonal Bock beer, offered only during the Spring, is hand-crafted utilizing the finest Munich and Vienna styles of specialty malts with a blend of Bavarian Hallertauer hops. With a German translation of "One-Bock," Point Einbock is one Bock you are sure to enjoy.

12oz. brown bottle served in a pilsner glass. Poured a clear amber/gold with plenty of carbonation. Bright noble hop aroma, malt comes in as it warms. Light to medium body. Malt dominates, but it is pretty subdued. Caramel sweetness, balanced with noble hops in the middle. Very drinkable, but a little thin for the style which seems to be typical of American bocks.

Bottled. Poured brilliant translucent lighter orange with very little sticking around for head. The aroma picked up sweeter caramel with accents of rubbing alcohol.. warmth brought out some dry straw-like notes, but this wasn’t very complex. The flavor was along those same lines.. lightly-smoked, alcohol-laced caramel at the core with some herbal and medicinal bitterness around the edges.. short, brighter finish with toffee and a little darker fruit joining in. Medium-bodied and slick on the palate with low carbonation.. felt stronger than it probably should have.

Pours a amberish golden color. Head is fairly foamy with a brownish golden tint. Smells yeasty and a little sweet with a small hopy citrus note. Taste is somewhat sweet with a good malty content that makes the beer very enjoyable.

Pour is a bright copper with a small white head. Aroma is doughy and caramel but very thin. Flavor is quite thin as well with some roasted malts and a small amount of grain. Bland and boring.

Tap at Old Chicago Minnetonka. Pint pours medium amber with a small head and no lace. The aroma is light malt. The flavor is all malt and alcohol with a lingering sweetness. The palate is quite to style. Overall, not offensive. Served way too cold. It starts to unveil a lingering Cheerios thing as it warms, so ask for it cold.

12oz bottle. pours clear golden with white head. nose is pretty decent, soft biscuit with toasted biscuit, and leathery hop notes. flavor is just too sweet for this be solid, biscuity, toffee, and grainy. watery, and too sweet for it to be sessionable.

On tap at Murphy’s on the U of Illinois campus. They had a total of 5 beers on tap from Point and this was definitely the best of the bunch. Clear amber colored pour, caramel and honey aroma and flavor. Some slight hints of roasted malt lurking around as well. Enjoyable and sessionable beer (and at $1.50 a pint, I had a nice little session with it!).
