Commercial Description:
Point Einbock is an authentic Maibock Style Lager. There are many stories as to how Bock beers were named. Some assert the origins date back to the north-German town of Einbeck. Others maintain that "bock," the German word for "goat," relates to the "kick" of some bock beers. This seasonal Bock beer, offered only during the Spring, is hand-crafted utilizing the finest Munich and Vienna styles of specialty malts with a blend of Bavarian Hallertauer hops. With a German translation of "One-Bock," Point Einbock is one Bock you are sure to enjoy.

Didn’t even know this existed until I spied it in the local retailer’s cooler last Saturday. Bought a sixpack--and I’ll let you in on the punchline right now--I’ll be buying many more. From a 12-oz. bottle, this pours a clear amber with an off-white head. Some lacing as the head disappears. Sweet malt aroma with hints of vanilla. First taste echoes the aroma with sweet, toffee-like malt. Slight hop bitterness quickly follows. Surprisingly full mouthfeel. This reminds me a whole lot of Capital’s Maibock, but it is even more of a bargain ($5.49/sixpack at Woodman’s east). Hats off to the brewmaster at Point; this one is great!

Sampled at Food and Froth. This here is a surprisingly good Point beer! It’s a nice light Bock, without the caramel and toffee sometimes dominating others in an effort to be strong. Very sessionable.

Found this one bottled at Binny’s in St. Charles, Illinois. Clear, dark orange pour with a thick, fluffy white head, and a thin mouthfeel. Light, citrusy nose with some characteristic maltiness. A little bit of lemongrass, honey and just enough alcohol to make it bite, but not enough to make it unpalatable. Very quaffable. I continue to be impressed by these new issues by the folks at Stevens Point Brewery.

I like what point has been doing with some of these new beers they’ve been putting out. Sweet malty aroma, some good caramel, honey, and a faint floral scent. Pours with a nice enough fluffy white head that diminishes significantly. Deep copper color. Taste is very nice, a little sweetness up front with a amazing dry, and lightly toasty flavor that dominates the palate. One of the best Point beers I’ve had.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-tan color, light fluffy head. Sweet alcohol laced aroma, rather old school if you will. More smooth than the aroma would have me believe, relatively true to style. Cloying malt sweetness dominates. Lacks a little yeast depth, but overall a nice effort. A relatively sessionable, well balanced example.

Light amber with mammoth tan slowly diminishing head. Aroma of caramel malt, mixed fruit and spice. Taste mainly malty with notes of caramel, fruit and has a mild sugary/fruity finish. A little thin, but not too bad.

Good yellow-orange head over orange-foxy beer. Little chocolatey, point of ureum in the nose, whiff of hops, and precious little sugars for a Bock... Bit leafy, even grassy. Bitter chocolate, harsh hops dominate more chocolatey malts. Not very refined. Unripe banana peel, bit of orange flavour. Rainwater quality, soft water, but not watery; slick. Harsh-hoppy. No German Bock ever had half this amount of iso-alpha’s. Better choice of hops might have made this succeed on its own merits. Thanks to Dave A.
