Commercial Description:
Point Oktoberfest is an authentic Marzen Style Lager Beer, a style reminiscent of the beers originally brewed for the first Oktoberfest Celebrations in Germany during the early 1800’s. Hand-crafted using Hallertauer hops and sweet Vienna roasted malts for a rich amber hue. The result is a full flavored, well balanced beer, brewed in celebration of the upcoming season.

12 oz. twist-off bottle, no freshness date, sampled in a lager glass. Poured a clear golden hued amber with a frothy off-white head, decent retention, a little ringed sticking at the top of the glass. Aromas of lightly roasted caramel, nutty, traces of sweet fruitiness and floral hops. Smooth medium-light body, crisp and dry, easy quaffability. Sweet tasting, lightly roasted caramel with some pale malt sweetness. Sweet green grape fruitiness in the middle. Mildly spicy hops along with a dry nuttiness coming out at the end. A passable Oktoberfest at an affordable price. Won’t knock your socks off, but will do in a pinch.

Pours a deep, coppery/amber body with mild carbonation under a staunch, yellowhite head. Grainy, cornmealy aroma, lightly toasted, with mild nuttiness. Low caramel notes in the flavor to a generic malted sweetness. (Compare to a "small beer" made from the second-runnings of a good Marzen.) Afterthoughts of lager yeast and mineral water. Mid-bodied with a sweet & sour finish. Leaves a light coat of sugars on the palate. ’Tis the season for Oktoberfest brews and I’ve tried many superior ones to this over the past month.

Note: Mixing 50/50 with Bell’s Oktoberfest is an adequate compromise.

Bottled. Poured clear, brilliant medium orange with a towering cap of beige head. The aroma was dusty and detergenty, with very little of the caramel or hop presence typically found in the style. The flavor was unfortunately about the same.. less some detergent, but didn’t pick up anything really good to replace it.. lightly-toasted caramel and honey sweetness at the core, surrounded by stale leafy hoppage and some floral notes.. tacky caramel and honey at the less-than-pleasant (but non-offensive) finish. Lighter-bodied on the palate and watery at points.. decent flow at best. I didn’t much care for this.

Pours to a brassy body with a dense light off-white head. The aroma is corn husks, breads, toasted caramel, typical marzen aromas. The flavor is malty, toasted pale and caramel malts, sweet breads. The palate is watery slick with a medium-light body. A decent, drinkable Oktoberfest.

This is the averagest oktoberfest ever created. It is outstanding in its averageness. There is nothing particularly horrible or good about this beer.

New arrival at John’s in Iowa City. The body is medium copper with a light off white head. The aroma is grainy with some notes of peanuts and toffee. The taste has some light notes of caramel along with iced tea. Actually this is nicely balanced and lightly falvored. I find this to be a nice sessionable Ofest. I prefer this to some of the overhopped US versions of this style.

Bottle. Poured a very clear amber color with a slightly off-white and small head. The aroma is HORRIBLE. This smells like urine soaked hay in a horse barn stall. One of the worst beers I’ve ever smelled. The taste had some malt but I couldn’t escape the horrible aroma. Probably the worst Oktoberfest I’ve ever had.

Had this one on draught at the brewery in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Clear, copper pour with a thick off-white head. A nice malty nose and character. Pleasant but ultimately weak.
