Some minor hoppy notes are detectable, but otherwise this is a watery mess. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 28, 2003 I'm quite sure this sample is dated as the brewery is now under new management, but I proceed. Light citrus and celery aromas. Amber color with a cream colored moderate head. Light feel. Has some of the grainy tastes of a light beer. Somewhat like some of the new light ambers. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 23, 2004 Copper color, sticky white head, fair lacing. The aroma is lightly hoppy with some caramel. Light hoppy flavor, fairly mild, caramel malts & light biscuits & dusty hops. Finishes balanced, medium bodied. Thanks Falconseye! heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 21, 2005 New label. I had this many years ago when Pony Express was under a different company. Now rating the new version. A very thin white head. Very light amber color. Aroma is oranges, bread and some green beans. The taste has a slightly metallic tint with some strong grass and tobacco. Also a weird aftertaste of butter. A decent light pale ale. There are better micros made in KC, as there were many years ago. Braudog (3774), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 19, 2006 On draft at the St Louis Microfest, 5/13/06: Shapr copper aroma with a tan head. Nice tart hop bitterness. I’d drink this again and again. SledgeJr (2972), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 26, 2006 On tap at the 2006 Best of the Midwest Brewers’ Festival. redish amber in color with a fluffy white head. Light malty aroma is pleasant. Has a good head retention. Looks identical to the Flying Monkey, but tastes much better. Aubrey (2778), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 9, 2002 IMHO, slightly below-average pale ale. Some malty-fruitiness, and a little hop flavor/bitterness. Not enough to get my attention; and unfortunately, not very aromatic either. Some bitterness in the finish... which was a little dry, and rather bland. Not totally BAD, but def not GREAT. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 2, 2006 This one had some really offensive chalky like bitterness. I don’t know if the bottles I purchased are old, or what, but all the things I have tried from this brewery are terrible. Flavor is a bit metallic, with some light caramel maltiness, and a hint of earthy hops. Yucky
