Commercial Description:
Kansas City's great amber ale is sweeping through the Midwest again. Munich and European crystal hops and grains grown here in the heartland give Tornado Red Ale aggressive hoppiness followed by a rich, smooth malt flavor. It's the flavor that won the Silver Medal at the Great American Beer Festival, and only Pony Express has it.

12 oz. bottle. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma is mostly malt. Very smooth flavor with virtually no hop bitterness. I was waiting for some more "oomph" with this beer and it just never came. I guess with the name "Tornado" I expected a beer that was bolder. A bit disappointing.

Pours an amber color (duh) with a small head that stays longer than expected, with nice lacing. Aroma is a cheap malt profile, though the hop pepper does nearly balance the aroma. Slightly citric aroma, with faint floral notes. Flavor is similar to aroma, though malts no longer seem cheap and adjunct-laden. Balance is very nice, equal parts toasty malt and hop "pepper". Very quaffable, and quite enjoyable.

Very aggresive hopping for the style carries the day, with a rich caramel bottom. I was surprised how bitter this one was...kinda caught me pleasantly off-guard. Very nicely done.

Small tan head, fair retention with some spotty lacing. Clear amber color. Nose is lightly hoppy, lightly malty, a touch soapy and nutty. Body is Light/medium. Dry maltiness, caramel notes with a light grassiness. I detect a Ringwwod yeastiness also? Finish is dry, nutty. Thanks DeGarth.

Bottle. Had at KC Biermeisters meeting. Reddish amber color with a white head. Aroma is malt, toffee hints, some caramel. Taste is caramel, toffee, some noble hops but it still finishes too sweet.

12oz bottle. Medium red amber color. Medium sized white foamy head, with decent lacing. Aroma is malty, sweet and cardboard. A medium bodied amber. Malts are fruity and sweet, Lots of cardboard and wet dog flavors. A little too sweet. A little too thin tasting. Bah, Yet Another Awful Amber (YAAA) I think I might start using that as an abbreviation. I had so many of them it might save some verbiage. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is crisp and thin. Aftertaste is slightly sweet and cardboard.

Nice sturdy head, with lacing. Deep golden cooper hue, subtle alchol up front breaking to a yeasty middle ending with linger snap.
