Commercial Description:
Kansas City's great amber ale is sweeping through the Midwest again. Munich and European crystal hops and grains grown here in the heartland give Tornado Red Ale aggressive hoppiness followed by a rich, smooth malt flavor. It's the flavor that won the Silver Medal at the Great American Beer Festival, and only Pony Express has it.

Pours a nice amber color with a descent sized white head. Aroma full of malt, caramel, and some nice hop. Flavor is surprisingly nice, smooth caramel, big malt, and just enough citrus to make it a very well balanced brew.

Bright-copper colored with a large and fading, creamy head. Aromas were toasted and lactic, very sweet with a mild alcohol presence (the whole of which pointed in the general direction of Belgium). Flavor was moderately sweet with light hop bitterness and a finish-flavor of walnuts. Creamy mouthfeel. Very good, but a tad too sugary.

This pours the color of a well polished penny with a (momemtarily) pillowy white head. The aroma is a sweet caramel malt topped with some herbal hoppiness. Smooth to drink, it’s got a grainy, sweet maltiness that’s well balanced with the hop bitterness. Depending on the abv (not listed), this could be a good session ale.

Mild malt and caramel sweetness. Light transparent red color. Big fluffy white head. Overly sweet malt flavor with a lot of grain in the finish. Just too sweet without enough hop balance.

Medium amber colored body. The aroma is sweet caramel and some peanuts. The taste has some roasted peanuts and some toast. This is definitely better than the older incarnation of Pony Express Amber.

Stopped by Pony Express to pick up some of their goodies and they were kind enough to let me sample their Tornado Amber. I have to tell you I really liked it. Full bodied, sweet, citrusy flavor. Smooth drinkable Amber. There are better but this was very tasty.

Not a bad amber, smooth malt, hoppy aroma.

Draught. Aroma is comprised of some faintly sweet caramel maltiness and gentle tea-like, leafy, green hops. Light-medium copper color, clear, with a fine head but decent lacing. Flavor is predominantly hoppy and fruity, some fairly well balanced lightly sweet malts and bitter, drying hops, finish is primarily malty, however, yet the overall effect is one of refreshing, light hoppiness, surprisingly. Well carbonated mouthfeel, light-medium bodied. Drinkable, to be sure.
