This bottle of beer from Bayhawk is sour and infected. No, I’m serious. I know that never happens with this model brewery, which is why everyone should be in a state of utter disbelief. Sigh... Smells sour. Tastes sour. Why do I waste my money on these idiots? I’m tired of buying infected beers from Bayhawk. I recommend you all just post a rating that the beer was infected, save yourself $4, and no one will know the difference. (2, 2, 1, 1, 3, total: 1.0)
10-Sep-05 (22 oz bottle: $2.99 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) I’m such a sucker. This beer was cheap at Holiday, and given how well they care for the beer there, I figured if there was ever a chance of finding a bottle in good health, it would be here. And once again, Holiday comes through because this beer isn’t lemon juice at all. And in fact, it’s not even that bad a beer. Very, very grainy, getting close to tasting like corn, and only mildly sweet. The hops is gently bitter, but there’s a surprisingly bold spiciness that easily butts it’s way to the front row. But the label says this beer is made with real honey, and the only honey that’s anywhere near this beer is the hot looking honey in the yellow bikini on the label. Honestly, I taste no honey whatsoever. Body is light-medium with good carbonation and some crispness in the finish. Pale golden color is fully clear. The white head doesn’t rise to more than a quarter-inch in height, and it quickly settles to a broken film. So overall, it’s an okay beer. But now that I’ve actually tasted what this beer is supposed to taste like, I won’t feel compelled to buy it again. FoolishMortal (966), San Diego, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 30, 2005 Faded yellow gold color, generous white fluffy head. Sweet honey and acrid sulfer in the aroma. Light sweetness combined with a slightly acrid undertone, somewhat acetic. Finish is slightly dry with a lingering acetic tone. Mouthfeel is light and somewhat watery. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Jul 7, 2005 Sweet and yet still acidic vinegar smell. Light gold color. Decent head. Slight sour, lemon and mashed ripe fruit flavor. odd. Bayhawk ales all taste like they were brewed with vinegar. Pretty damn crappy! BeerLimey (1873), California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 27, 2005 Clouded yellowy hue, good head formation, fine streams of carbonation. Sweet syrupy malt, corn aroma. Definite honey sweetness on the palate with notes of lemon and vanilla, doesn’t really bitter at all, just dries slightly in the finish but remains sweet in the aftertaste. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 19, 2005 Bottle 22 oz. Saw this for the first time ever at BevMo yesterday and decided to try it. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber color with minimal head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma is sweet and smells of light malts, clover and honey. Honey is evident in the taste as well, quite malty with a bit of a metallic flavor and a slight hop bite in the finish. Light body and tingly carbonation. This is a mediocre ale at best - about what I’d expect from Bayhawk.
