Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

On draught at the Hops Museum in Poperinge. Golden yellow, big white head. Nutty aroma, bitter taste - well-hopped, and clean, dry finish. Better on draught than bottled.

25cl bottle. Ivory head that sticks to the glass as you drink away this nectar. Quite a golden to caramel colour. Really clean start and then the hop bitterness comes in, though I would say that is quite balanced and then finishes with a slight fresh ?sour? note.

Tap at Ombi Restaurant in Nashville. Pours a golden amber with a white head and fizzy carbonation. Lemony aroma. Lighter side of medium bodied with some tickling carbonation. Flavor of pale malts with accents of apple, light honey, and pear countered by a very tame herbally hoppiness. This is fairly sweet as well. Slight spicy finish. Decent, as it paired well with my duck and carmelized onion flat bread pizza.

11.2 ounce bottle in Duvel glass. Hazy orange with lasitng ring and a little lace. Fresh bread and lemon frosting aroma with a little tobacco. Mild orangy honey fruity sweetness with medium tobacco bitterness that lingers a little with matching lingering sweet fruit. Medium-light body, a little bit watery, with medium carbo. Pretty nice.
