Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Pours with a hazy golden orange body and a towering snow white coloured head, which sustains for almost the duration of the glass. Aromas are inviting, dominated by noble hops and sweet malt, in quite equal proportions. Palate displays honey, lemon, sweetened apricot and some chewy caramel malt. Great support comes from both the hops and yeast. Hops add a great degree of floral spice, while trademark Belgian yeast adds white pepper and star anise.

Sweet fruity flavor with good carbonation. Light amber in color, delightful on the palate. A good easy drink.

On tap at Café Belgique, Amsterdam.
Golden coloured, medium sized white head, dusty fruity nose. The taste is very malty, fruity, slight hoppy and metallic with notes of honey and spices. Rather bitter finish with strong metallic aftertaste.

Bottle at Boshuis Venkraai. A little hazy, golden colored beer, with a thick white foamed head. The aroma is fruity, but most of al hop bitterness. The taste is hop bitter wit some candy sweetness. In the back some fruits like citrus. It has a dry bitter aftertaste. A good summer beer.

Bottle at De Geuzen. Golden colour, big white head. Aroma of hops, sweet fruity malts. Flavour is metallic, hoppy and malty sweet, a bit fruity and dry. Nice bitterness, too bad of the metallic flavours.
