Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

On tap at the Sunswick Belgian night. Poured a cloudy light amber. the nose was light hops and belgian yeast. Nice hop flavor to it, maybe a bit on the mild side for a strong ale, but a nice beer with dry yeasty finish. A good session beer for sure,

Bottle 75 cl. Has a dark golden apearence with a nice and this white head. The nose is filled with fruiy nose souch as apple, clementine-peel and prunes. It has a creamy palate. Flavour is fruity and intense like almost rotten apples mixed with grapefruits. The finish is very fresh and long lasting. Typically belgian ale... in a good way.

Had from bottle at Waterhuis in gent on 6/20. Pours cloudy gold with a medium head. Nose of flowers, grass, and bananas. Tatse is spicy, with a decent hop finish. Medium carbonation. A very nice beer.

Hazy golden blond with a nice head and good retention, but little lacing. Floral hops were most evident on the nose, also some banana and wheat. Spicy yeast flavors were up front with the floral hops and a bit of maltiness to balance it all out. Medium bodied, very smooth and rich mouthfeel, light carbonation.

11.2oz bottle: A huge, spritzy head rises up and out of the glass as I pour gently down the side. The head eventually subsides, melting into mounds of foamy cream above the pale yellow body. The nose is enticing with a honey laden malt structure, balanced by grassy noble hops. The malts grow in complexity as the beer warms, revealing subtle notes of caramel, toffee, butterscotch. The hops add a nice pilsner like dimension, adding notes of grass and pine to the mix. Drinkable for a bigger beer. Very good.
