Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

This poured a dark golden color with a rather large head. The aroma is spicy and also contains some lemons, apricots, and floral notes as well. The flavor is somewhat sweet with a bit of alcohol noticeable. The flavor contains some lemons, honey, and spices present. The finish is slightly bitter and the mouthfeel is quite carbonated. Overall a well balanced nice beer.

Pours gold into a tulip. Bright white head recedes at a medium pace leaving spot lacing. Skunk aromas upon opening disappear to reveal candi and hop aromas. Crisp with nice balance. Caramel upfront with a sharp resin finish.

An interesting beer that pours a light amber color. A good head and lively carbonation that quickly fades as the beer warms. The head did not last, but the beer left some lacing in my glass. The aroma is sweet, fruity and caramely. I getting some fairly strong citrus notes with a bit of corriander or spiciness. I am getting no hop aroma. The beer seems a little light in body for the extreme sweetness, I’d expect it to be a little chewier. The alcohol is warming but not overwhelming for a 7.5% beer. Flavor of the beer is sweet at first then a hint of bitterness comes out as you swallow. I’m mostly getting sweetness with this beer, a lot of citrusy, maybe grapefruit of pineapple and some corriander in there. The flavor is complex. Very sweet with caramely, malty notes as the beer warms. Overall an excellent beer in my opinion. It was a little sweet for my tastes, and I’d like to taste some more hops in this beer to balance out the sweetness.

Pale yellow color with a large pillowy white head. Spice and coriander nose. Light on the tongue and tastes of oranges and coriander. The spiciness makes me think of tripels and creates a nice dry finish.

Pours a bright golden color with a thick, fluffy, sticky off-white head. Nice aroma of fresh hops. Very spicy, earthy, grassy and floral aroma from the hops, along with a nice gentle sweet maltiness and a hint of sweetness. Flavors were rich, sweet, pale-malty with a load of the earthy, piney, (gently) bitterness from the hops. This beer is all about hops, and yet... it’s still balanced and isn’t TOO MUCH about hops. Finishes pretty crisp and dry, a bit astringent, with a mixture of bitterness and sweetness left behind. Medium-bodied, pretty well-carbonated, a bit prickly on the tongue. A very well-made beer, one I’ll definitely have again.
