Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

On tap at HopLeaf in Chicago. Pours amber and clear with a lasting hug whitish head on tap. Smell is lightly funky and belgian yeasty. Taste is dusty, floral, hoppy and saison like with a thinnish body and medium carbonation. Pretty flavorful, and not bad at all.

Bottle. Peach and smokey malt aroma. Golden yellow color with moderate head. Sweet peach/apple malt and astringent herbal hops flavor. Hops overwhelm the other flavors.

Draught @ Duvel Cafe, Stockholm 080425. Clouded, dark straw to light amber color with a pretty head. Clean hoppy aroma of fresh grass, green nuts, blackcurrants ,fresh herbs and fresh air in the spring. Medium-big palate, yet clean and fresh. The finish is slightly disappointing. Quite short, kind of rounded with bitter nuts. A great beer.

Faint aroma of apple and grain. Cloudy amber, very thick head. Tastes of apple, slight smoke, and a little salty. Bitter grass finish, with some cloves.

Color: Cloudy golden beer with foamy white head and very light lacing. Nose: Fragrant with sweet citrus, toasty caramel and wet stone. Palate: Caramely sweet and pleasantly earthy. A light touch of vegetal hops on the finish. Simple, but tasty.

Bottle. Average size, creamy, white head thats diminishing. Good lacing. Hazy yellow/orange body, cloudy. Aroma of bread, hay, straw, flowers, grass and citrus. Yeast aroma of earth. Medium body, oily texture and average carbonation. Metallic and long bitter finish. The flavor has a long duration, is moderate sweet and heavy bitter.

The hops were there, but not there. You could tell that they had an integral part in the flavor profile of the beer, but in such a different way than something like an IPA. Nice beer and a bit of surprise for a Belgian.

A very hoppy beer with an aroma of grass, spices and hops. The flavour is dominated by the hops. They bear some resemblance to noble hops but this beer is just its own. The palate is a bit watery, but in a soft and vary enjoyable way. A real thirstquencher.
