Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Pours a clear gold color with a nice thick white head that stay a long time. Aroma of malts and hops and some spices. Flavors is very hoppy, some citrus and spices with a hint of corn and honey. Good carbonation with a bitter, dry and alcohol finish.

Tap at the Memphis Taproom. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a medium bubbly white head. Aroma of honey, citrus and floral hops, some bready malt and lots of fruity and spivey Belgian yeast notes. Flavor also had the honey and floral notes up front. It was hoppy but not in that bitter grapefruit kind of way.

Bottle best by 07-2010. Pours a clear golden color with a thick creamy white head- pure Belgian goodness. The aroma is full of yeast, spices, sweet apples. The flavor is similar; sweet malts, lemon and light spices, lots of yeast and pepper. Nice and warm. Easygoing. A bit of an odd alcohol taste in the finish, otherwise nice.

moderate hoppy , beautiful presentation, bitter finish, but should have a little more alcohol to strengthen the finish.
