Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy orange yellow with large white head and excellent but not overpowering hop aroma. Initial taste was a little metallic but finish was slightly sweet with excellent hop flavor. Except for odd metallic taste, very enjoyable beer.

One of the greatest brews in the world. The hopping, which is perfumed rather than bitter makes it virtually unique, although Saison Dupont and Avec Les Bons Voeux are not dissimilar. It does not drink its strength either, and remains very refreshing. The bet place to drink it is t’Hommelhof in Watou, eating rabbit braised in Hommel Bier. Heaven.

Bottled, BB 10/07. Poured hazy medium golden with a short, creamy cap of white head. The aroma picked up nice doses of pale malts and peppery spices that played quite well together.. some lemon zest, coriander, and bready sweetness emerged with warmth. The flavor had a syrupy foray of honey and bready sweetness that was followed by a lot of peppery spices and yeasty notes on the back-end.. tasty, but a touch too spicy for me. Creamy carbonation on the palate with a medium body.. nice mouthfeel, but again, a bit too spicy.

On tap at Hopleaf, Chicago. A very nice Belgian ale. Crisp taste. Really pleasant drinking. Almost saison in taste.

Light orange color with a huge white head. Good carbonation with a complex spicy aroma with just a bit of dough. Hops are very prevalent, spice as well. Somewhat sweet finish.

Bottle. Pours with a hazy golden color and a nice head. Aromas were primarily grassy. First taste - old grass and yeast and maybe some hops. Didn’t get any better. Some floral hops were the highlight. I won’t buy again.

Tasted at Uni Canty Staff club tasting 10/12. Cloudy golden, mine came from the bottom of the bottle - dry, dusty very Belgian aroma. Nice cloyness? dry, great character.

750 ml bottle from South Bay Liquor and Drugs. Creates a vigorous size of foam and is paired with a murky hazed yellow with plenty of sediment to be seen. The flavor is a full serving of healthy Belgian yeast and spice with a peppery aftertaste. Had a typical aroma of the usual suspects you could expect from a Belgian. Almost tasted like a farmhouse saison.
