| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Pours a slightly cloudy gold with some head that leaves good lacing on the way down. Nose is very unique. Smooth and even sweet tone, though not over done. Mild yeast beneath all of it, though not overpowering it all. Flavor is totally odd. Not your typical of the style. Slightly sweet but with a bitter tone and a strong earthy tone that..hey...my palate just isn’t experienced enough to be able to place. Slight alcohol invasion, though it is strong in a unique way. Dry edge and just totally interesting. If you want something different to try, this is one for ya. I’d love to try this one again farther down my beer road. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 4, 2007 My 3.3 rating is not as bad as it sounds. It is an interesting beer in the fact that it is Belgian but has German qualities. Hazy golden pour. Mild head. Almost no lacing. Aroma was subdued hence the lower rating. Tasted like a medical strong flavored German Hefe Weizen. ABV well hidden. I’ll buy again at $3.49 a bottle Dorwart (1829), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 2, 2007 Thin fluffy head. Reduces slowly and leaves a thick sticky sheet of lacing. Fruity aroma with some peaches, lemon grass, yeast and floral hops. Color is a hazy orange. Bitter hoppy flavor with some more yeast and grassy flavors. Herbal in a way. Finishes bitter and dry with a slight alcohol presence. Not a real big fan of this one. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Popering’s Hommel pours a surprisingly clear copper with minimal amounts of suspended yeast. Large active rising carbonation bubbles rise to the big dense three finger head. The carbonation keeps the head strong. Leaves a few drink rings here and there. This beer looks delicious.
Fruity esters greet the nose right off the bat but it’s a little tough pulling out the aromas through the dense head. Pear and apple with a healthy sprinkling of dusty yeast spiciness.
Flavor is very much like the aroma. The pear seems to be a little on the juicier side along with a nice tartness. Mild clove comes out toward the finish that adds a needed touch. Pale malts really let the fruitiness shine. Slight metallic twang on the swallow. No hops though. Wait! As this glass gets lower and lower the hops show themselves with a quick and spicy bite.
Medium to light mouthfeel with a velvety smoothness. Moderate carbonation keeps the beer moving along at a healthy pace. After about half a glass you can feel the bitterness wash over the tastebuds.
Easy drinking refreshing Belgian Pale. One that goes down far too quickly.
The body and flavor are close to expectations but the hop presence just isn’t there like I’d hoped. Again, as the glass shrinks the hops show more and more. I’d love a 750 of this. Still an excellent all around beer.

Smell is fruity and sweet, with some grassy flavors as well. Taste is smooth and pretty refreshing really. Would be a decent rival to duvel if it had a little more carbonation. Pretty easy drinking and smooth, not bad.
