Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Bottle no freshness date noted.
Hazy orange with a tight beige long lasting head.
Aroma is hoppy and fruity with an underlying musty yeastiness. I tried to decant without getting any yeast in the glass, but some may have escaped.
Flavor is sweet and fruity with nice hoppy finish.

Julio’s Belgian Beer Festival. Sample. By this point in my sampling I had lost a fair bit of obectivity. I wrote down in my notes "quintessential tripel" which I thinks means I liked it.

The pour was cloudy and dark gold with a one-finger tall white head that produced minimal lacing. The aroma was minty, bubblegum and herbal. A slight lean towards funky. The flavor was mint and citrus with earth and flowers. Thin to medium in body with a nice mouthfeel that masked the ABV well. Different. Good.

First thing I noticed was the nice hoppy aroma. The flavor had hints of a pale ale at times. No bad aftertaste and just an overall smooth ale.

slightly cloudy yellow, small white head. aroma has a little hops, but reminds me more of a blonde with the swetness and faint spicyness. hops, honey, flowers and faint spices. flavor is more hoppy than the aroma. sweet sawdusty hoppy, dry but still quite sweet. honey, spices, alc. very well hidden, i’d gues it was a 5%.

can not remember the details of this one, being the 8th beer that was on the program this night. rated it and it turned out quit well. Remember it to be sweet but that’s to be expected with a name like that. and yes, i read the commercial description. by the way: Hommel is as much standard dutch as it is flemisch (for bumblebee)
