Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

Golden orange color with a huge fluffy white head. Lightly citrus fruity aroma with notes of grass and spice. Surprisingly hoppy flavor with citrus and spice notes at the start with sweeter tropical fruits at the finish. Very nice.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a thick, bubbly white head. Great aroma of earthy and spicy hops with yeast. Good flavor of earthy and spicy hops, apples and yeast with a sweet finish. The body has a light to medium thickness with a creamy and oily texture and lively carbonation. Very interesting hops in there.

330 mL bottle , which pours a light gold color with a sticky white head. strange aroma of spice, sweet wheat, and dry funk. noble hops in the aroma as well, and the flavor profile is very similar. not as dry as the aroma suggests, but not sweet either. very drinkable for the 7.5%, and although it’s not bad, i don’t think i’ll revisit it.

Bottle. Pale clear gold with white bubble wellspring. Typical sweet coriander aroma. Refreshing palate. Flavor is alike to aroma plus a hint of bread, slightly dry yet sweet simultaneously. Light bodied but flavorful. Verges on too sweet and coriander but not terrible. Good rings of lace. Adding yeast at the bottom gives it more body and reduces sweetness and gives it a little bite... after a few sips with the yeast in, it starts to taste positively awful, rotten, sickening, and I have to pour it out. Nothing special either way...why does the foodery display this proudly in their window? It’s basically stereotypical belgian golden ale with nothing distinctive.

Cool looking beer. It was honey colored with a large soapy foam. The foam never really went away and was the last thing remaining in the glass. The flavor of this beer was exceptional. Citrus and hops dominated the start. Some spice, too. It was very well balanced throughout. Toward the end it became more like a hefe and banana and cloves became evindent. Interesting beer.

Draught at Delirium Cafe in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Light honey colored with a white head. Hoppy scent. "Belgian ale" taste, not too much bitterness. Taste a bit alcoholic.

(25 cl bottle at The Rover)
Shady orange color, whi te head. Acidic, sweet and grainy scent. Some solvents as well. Sweet and alcohol taste, some cinnamon and a bit of worm wood. Spritzy mouthfeel, low bitterness. A bit too sweet.

Dark yellow murky body with surprisingly large white head. Not sure whether I like the smell or not, a bit citrusy... Smells like a Belgian anyways... Surprisingly well-balanced taste with a bit of citrus and some malt... Tastes similar in some ways to Unibroue’s La Fin Du Monde, but less strong. Less well-ballanced than I’d like, but nonetheless a pretty solid beer.
