Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

A Mes rate: Nothing too exciting aroma wise but the looks are great. Translucent golden body with a wonderful thick head that lasts really well and leaves lots of lace. Very hoppy and quite dry. Those special malts show through at the finish. Pretty tasty.

Nice orange color with a small fizzy head - fair lacing. Intense orange and grass nose. Medium bitter taste - hay and some grapefruit tones too. Dry finish.

Spicy and piney nose with some honey, lush clear gold, low clingy white head. Medium honey-ish malt body gives quickly way to a dry bitter end, like a fresh date. Apple note in the middle. Hop bitter comes through. A little gitty and even biting.

Bottle: Hazy, nearly cloudy, orangey coloured, mid-sized fluffy off-white head, lasting; sweetish fruity (honey) nose with a big touch of bitter-aromatic hops; sweetish flavour, not very bitter; dryer, hoppy aromatic finish with a tinge of fruitiness; quite full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and pretty well hidden alcohol. A deceptive, aromatic brew...............

Musty, spicey, slightly perfumed smell. Very dry and slightly mossy taste. There is a slight honeysweet aftertaste.

In Flanders field, the hoppies grow... 25cl bottle at a cafe in Ieper (Ypres) BE. A nice lager yelloe with a good white head. Sweet yeasty aroma. Tangy flavor strating with yeaty citrus fruit and ending with a nice kick of hops. (Driving through the area, I actually saw the hops being grown) Crispness reminds we of a witbeir. I didn’t get to see the bottle, so I had no idea that this was 7.5% A great beer. 1e30 at the local cafe makes me want to move to Flanders.

Light pilsener colour, head quickly dying, taste of yeast and hops of course. Long aftertaste
