Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

11.2 oz bottle poured into Duvel tulip. Hazy golden color with a large white crest of fine carbonation. Aroma is basic Belgian blonde with a nice hop influence. Typical banana and yeasty dough notes with a tart, citric character derived from the hops. Candied lemon and grass accents. Flavor is yeasty and biscuity with more lemon and grass. Also some phenolic character and a lightly bitter finish. Effervescent and pleasant mouthfeel, although a bit thin.

Hazy golden beer. The aroma is sort of grainy with a hint of hobs and the taste is somewhat alike that of Orval - with a lot less power. Good and bitterish beer for a warm day, but not breathtaking.

Tap. Pours a light golden color with a medium head. Taste is a little thin, but a good strong hop flavor and notes of malts. Pretty good brew,

Some ghastly shite like Tennent’s Extra or Greene King IPA aside, probably The Beer I’ve Had The Most times and Never Rated. Brilliant to dusky orange misted with bits, a slim but solid white collar once the rockiness has subsided. Dribble-making hops+yeast aroma of satsuma, lemon, grass, pollen, mellow sewage and pine. Pale malt and honey leaking in. Conifer, marmalade, papery sherbet (flying saucers) and coriander mouth, perfumey but robust with hops. Grass as a hop metaphor typically denotes boredom for me, but here I mean ripe and juicy. Dry hop finish. For Belgium. Peppery, tanging, grassy and a little bit boozy. Overall impression: Belgian hop monster for the ladies, silky and humming gently with resins. Along with Orval, Westvleteren Blond and Taras Bulba, top drawer Belgian sessions. Laces like the sea. All these beers later, still impressive, and most definitely better drank than smashed all over the pavement by the 8-pack. Ask Ma Jenner.

[1940-20090111] 250mL bottle. Lemon-lime zest hops aroma. Hazy, light orange brown body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Bitter grainy citrus hops flavour has lots of sweet yeast. Medium body. Nice and drinkable.
