Commercial Description:
Hommel is the local abbreviation of humulus, from the botanical name for the hop plant. Confusingly, it also means bumble bee in Flemish. Poperings Hommelbier is a hoppy, golden-bronze, ale. It is made from a blend of winter, summer and aromatic pale malts.

The aroma is metallic and malty with plenty of grassy hops. There is also yeast and fruit. The appearance is cloudy gold with a large head and lots of particles in it. The flavor is astringent but like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it’s not even average.

looks pretty good, with the many flavors of yeast fruits and sweet malts, taste is too metallic. sediments runs rapid. works pretty well over all.

preparation I have bought it 330ml in the area of poperinge - they told me it is regional
general whoa, 7,5% - thats gonna be nice ride
aroma - delicate flower and bit yeast, like hfe weizen to a moderate extend
app - cloudy lagerish colour, v.good lacing on the glass walls
flavour - not much of it, delicate dryness of yeast in finish for sure but what I felt before it is a mystery, was it bitterness?yeast?malts?old rug?nice top fermented belgian ale? I am sure something in between,
final thoughts - medium level (in Poland we say ’srednia polka’/shreadneeah poowkah/ - medium shelf), not a nice ride

In the bottle at the 2009 Crescent Moon Extreme Beerfest. Pours a very cloudy dark gold with a thick white head. The dominant flavor that I get from this is yeast...it’s just a yeast bomb. I sort of don’t get the point of this at an extreme beer festival. It gets lost. I’ll have to revisit it.

Bottle. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is malt, yeast, light fruits, and some floral hops. Flavor is enjoyable with pale malts, yeast, honey, light fruits, spice, and some hop bitterness on the finish. Drinkable.

Pours gold wit a white head. Smells of light spice, fruity, floral. Tastes sweet and dry with some enjoyable floral and hay notes on the finish. Very saison like.
