Aroma is very soft, and takes some doing to parse. Kind of a pleasant soap quality. A bit of lemon, some yeast and green banana. Flavor is initially a rather heavy-handed vanilla candy flavor, a bit cloying and artificial. After a few sips the aggressive carbonation helps move things toward balance, but overall, the flavors seems quite distracted. Warm melon in the finish and a bit of alcohol fumes. yousee (48), Belgium

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Sweetish, strong and simple blonde. Orange-gold with a nice enough head. Honeyish element to the flavor. Lacks depth. But on the bright side, we met the nun who posed for the picture on the coasters. She was in full habit at the Karakterbierfest in Poperinge. I asked her if she went to bed with a Trappist every night. Turns out she’s not really a nun at all, but a welder. Unfortunately, she didn’t know any welding jokes. However, she was nice enough to sit in our friend’s lap for a photo. A good story, but I would have traded that story for a more interesting beer. MesandSim (5940), London, Greater London, England

Bottle from Kris Wines. Sadly not even a patch on a certain other beer with Poperings on the label... Clear deep golden with a white head that settles quickly to a very thin film. Light hoppage in the aroma and that obvious sweet/sour/soy note that is characteristically Verhaeghe. Flavour is similar with some faint whiskey notes and light spice. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Not bad. Not great. DruncanVeasey (2753), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 18, 2007 Bottle at cafe Paix, Poperinge. Weakly headed dull gold pour. Vague grassiness, papery malt, rubber and alcohol. Grainy, sugary and unhoppily bitter. Smells faintly spicy. A half-decent lagery ale with all the character filtered out of it.
