Commercial Description:
It’s not often that a great summer swell coincides with a full moon, but when they collide, nature affords us a rare opportunity to paddle out long after everyone has called it a day. These moments are a solitary pursuit with empty lineups, but those who carve graceful lines under a full moon understand how things can be dark lonely and rewarding at the same time. So next time you paddle in from an overcrowded beach break, remember that nothing tastes better than a cold beer after a session. We suggest a glass of this smooth roasty black lager for contemplating empty lineups and waves that go on for days. Most likely, you’ll long for epic summer swells under moon lit sessions opening the doors to isolation and empty secret spots of an age trying to pass us by.

Bomber. Big, frothy brown head, slowly diminishing. Black body. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malts. Notes of smoke, ash, husky grain and resin. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, moderately acidic and moderately bitter. Dry, metallic taste in the finish as well as some notes of charred wood. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Nice schwarzbier, but a little too much of the burnt malts in the finish.

Bottle pours dark brown with a creamy khaki colored head. Aroma is pretty subtle with notes of chocolate and extremely light coffee. Flavor is heavy in toasted malt, with background hints of chocolate, coffee, and ash. Overall body is a little too light for me, with a nice dry finish. Not bad, not spectacular.

Sampled at the Noogfest High Five. Nice black pour with dark tan ring of head. Surprisingly picking up a good bit of coffee on the nose. Palate was a little on the thin side, but okay. Reminded me of a new belgium 1554 mixed with some coffee

14th May 2008. A rich and well balanced dark lager. Easy drinking. Mellow toasted malt, subtle chocolate. Not bitter. Good carbonated bite. Dry finish.

Bottle. Pours a thick black with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt almost all the way through, with slight grain and hops detectable. Taste is roasted malt up front with a bit of a smoky characteristic at the end. I found this a bit more creamy than a lager, and I detected its similarities to the wonderful Serpents Stout, but it was a solid black lager all the way through.

Poured surprisingly thick looking. Black body . Tan creamy head, more like what I’d expect from a lager. Copious amounts of roasty malts in the aroma. While it may look like a stout, flavor is clearly of a schwartzbier. Smokey malts clear in the flavors. Clean mouthfeel. Good job!!

pure black color with with serious thick, dark brown head. Smells like malts, with some coffee and slight roasty scents. Taste is mainly a malt and coffee mix with some bitter/smoked undertones. Leaves pungent smoked aftertaste.
