kegbear (103), Orange, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Malty smokey aroma. Favor of burnt coffee, malt and smoke. Some vegetable tastes come through. Not my favorite Port Brewing beer.
sirpsycho (190), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, small tan head. Aroma is malt and chocolate. Flavor is malt, roast, some smoke and chocolate on the dry, slightly bitter finish. CharlesDarwin (1413), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2008 #1400. 22oz Bottle. Thanks Andy! Smooth caramel, chocolate toast and french sea salt aroma. Solid roast, brown sugar, and hazlenuts. That’s great. Pours a pitch black with a chestnut fringe, and a well-lacing tan head. Flavors are rich, but drinkable. A bit of char comes with deep chocolate roastiness. Chicory and coffee come through. Caramels for background. This is light, though and I like that. Fresh and bristling with salt. A very, very fine Schwarzbier. Cheers to everyone who’s been there for the last 1400 brews, especially Sean and Andy for keeping me in the good stuff. I look forward to the next 1400. beergod! (52), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 22, 2008 This lager pours a very dark almost black color. The nose is of smoked cereal and roasted coffee. Taste is smokey dry malt flavor with a nice drinkability. One of the better lagers i’ve had. Tmoney99 (3652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 20, 2008 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with medium brown frothy head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Medium roasted dark malty aroma. Medium body with a dry texture. Medium to heavy flavor of roasted malt with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Interesting solid brew. Bockyhorsey (2033), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 17, 2008 22oz bottle.
