Port Brewing Old Viscosity

Pours a dark brown, almost purple around the edges when held up to light. Head starts off as a nice khaki color but dissiaptes rather quickly. Aromas of chocolate, plums, raisins, and dark fruit in general. Plalte is a thin from what I was expecting. It would have gotten a 4 if wasnt so hyped up on the label...I was a little let down honestly. Flavor is GREAT, with hints of chocolate and the afformentioned dark fruits, and a nice hoppy/bitter bite near the end. All in all, a fantastic beer, but a little overaated. Now give me the Older Viscosity and I’ll be in biz.

Dark brown with a small tan head, slight lacing. Deep vanilla, chocolate, roast malt. Quite strong coffee, lots of alcohol, slight citrus. Smooth bodied but very salty, and a little chalky in the aftertaste. Good, but wouldn’t jump at another. Reminds me of an inferior Ten Fidy.

I like this beer. I like it a lot. Especially for the price I found it at in Boston. However, I find the body to be a little thin and flat. Chocolatey and hoppy. A little too much of both, IMO. With a considerably thin body (for what this beer is), I need more roast! While it is as dark as most well used motor oils, it’s not nearly as thick as some lower alcohol beers I’ve been tasting lately. Good brew, but just a little out of balance for my tastes.

Rating #700, and its a good one. Black pour with a small brown head. Aromas hit chocolate, molasses, bourbon, wood, syrup and coffee. Flavor is full of coffee and chocolate wtih some great hints of bourbon. Flavor is bitter when even a little cold but as it warms the bitterness disappears. Very, very nice beer indeed!

great aroma, changes over time... I get a slight sarsaparilla in the nose and more on the palate. Sarsaparilla and caramelized brown sugar, coffee, chocolate, Oakishness. It’s dark with hints of orange and red on the edge. Bitter finish, but well balanced. Nice sweetness. I really like this. The bitter finish prevents this from being perfect, for me.

Bottle. Jet black thick liquid with a strong nose of coffee, rich dark chocolate, and smoke. Flavors of very dark coffee, bourbon, charcoal, and chocolate. Really good thick, chewy imperial stout.

22oz. bottle, has to be well over a year old now. Roasty, dark, sweet malt aroma, with appetizing notes of chocolate truffle, plummy fruit, lightly smoky wood, maple sugar and very faint bourbon, along with some background coffee and slight medicinal alcohol. Now this stuff really is the color and consistency of well-used motor oil, there have been other brews to cross my path and lay that claim and they’ve fallen short, but not this one. Head fades to nothingness after a short period, while the bottom of the bottle is coated with sediment after the pour. Flavor profile is dark and roasty to start, becoming sweeter and blended with berryish fruit and licorice, finishing with a blend of earthy bitterness, slight bourbon, aged wood, toffee, gentle but insistent alcohol and lingering espresso. Very smooth and low in effervescence on the palate but has a full, sticky, warming mouthfeel to it and a massively rich body. Very interesting, tasty and complex, ultimately, with some Imperial Porter-like characteristics. Nice.

22oz bottle. Settles black in the glass after poured dark, dark brown out of the bottle. Head is tan and dense, but dissipates quickly to a ring leaving a little bit of lacing. The smell is big and get bigger as it warms - caramel malts, raisins, figs, some dark chocolate, brown sugar and licorice. On top of this is the hint of oak and booze in the background that burns the nose ever so slightly. Taste is a slightly harsher version of the aroma with a big roasted character on top of the malt background and dark fruit flavors. Coffee and chocolate are present as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation and fairly dry in the finish. Drikability is slightly limited by the harsher character of the taste. Still, this is tasty and complex brew from a great brewery. Recommended.
