22oz - After reading the workup on the bottle I guess I got my hopes raied a little too high. Didn’t really coat the glass (thinke Stone IRS), wasn’t really thick (think Lost Abbey Serpent’s Stout). Not much of a head or nose, and the balance was off with a boozy punch in the middle of each sip. Good not great.

Odd to me that this is an american strong ale. If I were drinking this blind, based on the color aroma and flavor I would call it a porter. Lots of chocolate and carmel. Head faded down fast and left a lacing ring. Very smooth and great flavor

Very dark brown opaque pour with a tan head. Smoky aroma with a sweet coffee and chocolate aroma. Sweet coffe malt with chocolate and roast. Slight sourness with cream and a hint of molasses. Nice and easy to drink despite the alcohol content. Full bodied and delicious

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation dark ruby red brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was brown malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of dark malt soflty smoky and mild brown malt.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Wallingatan, Stockholm, 10 Sep 2009) Dark brown colour, almost black. Brief, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of dark chocolate, black coffee and a touch of juniper berries. Roasted, malty taste with dark fruit, chocolate, black coffee, liquorice, dark cherries and a long, slightly vinous finish with juniper berries and warming alcohol. Full body with a smooth mouthfeel and a slightly oily texture. Some sweetness throughout and a balanced but ever present cocoa/coffee bitterness lurking in the darkness. Very complex beer with lots of different flavours, but all kept in harmony and brilliant balance. Lovely beer!

My first rating in quite a while. Absolutely black pour with a frothy mocha colored head. Lightly hoppy, chocolate aromas. chocolate, bourbon, woody flavors. very thick and chewy mouthfeel. lightly hoppy finish with some booze in there as well. not a beer that i would drink very often though just because it’s so chewy and thick. not to mention 22oz of this stuff to yourself spells trouble!

Pours a black color with a brown head. A good coffee aroma with hints of raisins and alcohol. The taste is strong dark malt, coffee, and toffee. There is a good bitterness and noticable alcohol warmth.

650 ml. Opaque black with a lasting 1/4 inch of creamy foam and nice sticky lace. Cocoa, caramel, oats and oak on the nose. Chocolate, cherry, coffee and fruity oat on the gulp. Charry smoke, tobacco and roast on the finish. Medium-heavy body is smoothly carbonated and dangerously drinkable, with a roasty dry finish.
