Thanks to awaisanen for this 2006 bottle. Pours a deep black with a small bubbly/creamy lightly lacing deep tan head. Aroma of sweet toasted/lightly roasted malts, caramel, light alcohol, some almonds and bar cherries. Flavors of caramel, milk chocolate, mixed nuts, some vanilla and woody notes. Nicely done, looking forward to trying the Older. Nice creamy palate.

Bottle. Deep dark brown pour. Nearly no head. Mahogany edges and a nice alcohol coating around the circumference of the glass. Nose is roasted malts, dark chocolate, light licorice, soft alcohol, and dark fruits. Taste is larger licorice and hops notes, dark chocolate, alcohol, roasted malts and rum soaked fruits. Body is medium but slick. Not a lot of carbonation to this at all. However, there is a bit of stickiness and alcohol warmth. Finishes with more bitter hops, licorice, dark fruits, roasted malts and dark chocolate. As I sit here typing and can feel it warming my stomach. It doesn’t taste like it’s high in alcohol but I can feel it. Delicious beer any way you cut it!

Bottle. Black beer with a strongish head. The aroma is lightly malty, and the flavour is bitter and lightly milky coffee. Overall a very bitter coffee like beer.

22oz bomber, purchased at The Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA. My bottle says abv-10% rather then the 12 listed. The brew pours black as expected with a little half there brownish head. The aroma is rich with coffee, chocolate and smoke. The taste is also quite nice, it feels a bit like an extremely bold porter. The taste has hints of fruit with a nice robost malty body. The aftertaste is warm and feels the throat like a barleywine. This brew certainly defies classification. Its tasty and I’m sure i’ll fall into the taste more as it goes down.

Near black colored with big beige head. Roastiness dominates this aroma with chocolate, licorice, even some burnt tobacco here with slight alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even richer with roastiness dominating, berries, some vinous-vanilla note. Aftertaste dries with same tobacco-wooden dry hopped tone and mild alcohol. Well, interesting brew, again.

Rating #700, and its a good one. Black pour with a small brown head. Aromas hit chocolate, molasses, bourbon, wood, syrup and coffee. Flavor is full of coffee and chocolate wtih some great hints of bourbon. Flavor is bitter when even a little cold but as it warms the bitterness disappears. Very, very nice beer indeed!

Bottle from San Diego. Helped to numb the senses of the Flames-Detroit playoff series start. Aptly named as it does pour like engine oil. Very dark. very good head. Rich aroma. Great body and malty flavours. Everything you could expect. Sweet chocolate and alcohol notes.
