Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

2006 Boulder Strong Ale Fest: Deep, dark brown. Hugely aromatic and tasty, with notes of steam room wood, smoke, aged whiskey, bitter chocolate, dark roasted barley, chewy black licorice, charcoal and burnt toast. Strong bitterness definitely cleaned out the sweetness. Very enjoyable beer. RERATE, bomber: Chewy, with lip-smacking sweetness filled with toffee, sugared tar, dark chocolate, toast. Dark fruit and fruity alcohol nips. Chalky texture in the gum-tingling finish, with lingering hop zing and alcohol warmth.

22. Thanks, Aspidites! Pours deep grainy opaque black with a thick tan moussy head. Nose seems almost vacant at first, and really is fairly slight, but has some things to recommend it--a little bit of roast and toast. Super bold attack: big body, lots of flavors, decent carb. Roast and chocolate and sharp notes of grain husk and biscuit. Lovely piney hop notes on the finish. Beautifully done.

Sampled at the O-Town throwdown. Purchased at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido,CA, 10/06. This brew pours dark stout-like with thin light brown head. It smells like figs, dates, raisins and peppers. Also there are malts aromas of caramel and molasses. The flavor has malt sweetness, some molasses and sweet caramel. Quickly after I taste a bit of olive, slight pepper, dates and raisins. It’s tough picking out any hop notes.

Black, no head. Rummy, winey coupled with fresh baked bread in the aroma, with hints of caramel and coffee. Notes of Oak and coffee are the first things I notice in the flavor, plus a hint of baker’s chocolate bitterness. nice smooth palate, hard to believe its a 10% beer.

Bottle a gift from my buddy Odeed!!! Nose of dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and a bit of floral hops (kind of stouty) opaque dark brown with a medium, hangs in there, glass lacing, tan head; flavor of bitter chocolate and hops, body is a thinner medium with the hop bitterness lasying to a smooth finish. I like this better than it’s oak aged brother!

Pours a cloudy dark brown. Roasty malt nose like a sweet pumpernickel bread. Vinous and roasty flavors mingle.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma is medium sweet. Smells of chocolate, coffee, malts, cream, roasting, and vanilla. Poured black in color with a small brow head that diminished. Opaque. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes mainly of chocolate malts, with roasting, coffee, alcohol, and a hit of cream. Medium to full body. Thick texture. Average carbonation. Long, malty, chocolate finish. Overall good, but a little boring.
