Pours opaque black with amber edges and almost non-existent head. The aroma is very malty with some dark tones, chocolate, coffee, raisins, vague fruit. The flavor is toast, molasses, clove, alcohol, and some cocoa. Gets ashy toward the finish and leaves an alcoholic aftertaste. Not bad, but needs to go with food. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 22, 2007 Murky, fluid and inky mahogany black with not one bit of head. Luscious nose. Anise with bakers chocolate and milk chocolate morsels. Broiled prune juice makes an experimental lactic mocha cooler. Brown sugar caramelizes raisins and dates with a hint of portly nutella, and caramel ripples stirred with black licorice sticks. Big flavor surplus realizes blackened and burnt chocolate covered walnuts, dripping oily grease and pooling in the bottom of the mocha catch tin. Fudge gathers with burnt espresso grinds, and some singed cocoa marshmallows provide a greasy yet crisp bridge. Port sauce begins to burn in the kettle, and dark chocolate raisins are thrown in to continue the slow boil tradition. Oil slowly diffuses as the bakers chocolate wax drips off the burnt pecans. Big thanks for the bomber, tpkenned! ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 22, 2007 Near black pour, moderate head, blah lacing and retention. Aroma is lots of dark malts with chocolate, caramel, darker fruits, lesser coffee and roast, and also quite hoppy with alcohol. Flavor brings this, medium to heavy body with a watery mouthfeel and too much alcohol. A lot going on, but it is too raw and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Can someone tell me why this brewery is good? ucusty (1920), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

The flavor is rather bitter and fruity with a strong alcohol finish. However, the taste is surprisingly pleasant. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
