Pours out thick or sludgy muddy brown (think chocolate milk), with a thin brown head. Port like aroma, with some alcohol and dark malts in the background. Thick, earthy, and milky texture and mouthfeel. Very soft carbonation. Flavors of raisens, maple syrup, chocolate, vanilla all shine through as the beer warms. The hop bitterness balances this beer out rather nicely. Faint amount of alcohol on the finish, but hidden well considering the style. Interesting and enjoyable. I would like to call out Pizza Port for making a great beer. You are welcome to serve this beer anywhere you f****ing please. Thanks Abby! If you see another and are up for a trade, beermail me.
Cellar Check 4-09. This is the first bottled version 2006 or 7?) and the hops have faded, and a tad amount of oxidation is setting in- but it’s not bad cardboardy type. It’s still drinkable, but not as good as fresh. I would not cellar this more than a year. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA

Sweet aroma has notes of molasses, chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, and roasted nuts. Full bodied, low carbonation, and a slightly oily feel. Good flavor. The chocolate and coffee come out with some touches of a molasses cookie. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA

The brewers might call this an American Strong - and it’s got plenty of strength, no doubt - but it’s more like a seriously smooth old ale, with occasionally roast-tastic overtones of imperial stout. Pours a deep dark brown with just a hint of lace, with a huge bourbon-y head. The alcohol is a bit too present at first (something that obviously may change with age) but the chocolate is booming, Jack. A smidgen of hops, but this is thick like molasses and a big jolt of flavor. Very nice, and will no doubt only improve with age. sunevdj (1788), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Very dark brown with some red hues. Smalllish brown head.
HUGE aroma! Roast and chocolate are apparent. I also find raisin, Reisin candy, pipe tobacco, smidge of pine. Fantastic!
The flavor is chocolate right up front, non specific hop flavors in the middle, and roasted bitterness in the end. Along with all this is pick out some smoke, dark cherry, and English Toffee. Damn this is a really good beer!
The body of this beer is quite substantial, yet easy to drink in quantity. The finish is surpisingly dry!
As you can see, I really like this beer. I wish I had one of those slick vocabularies to give this wonderful beverage its just due. Thank you Tomme, and Ken. sneagrams3 (1762), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
