Beautiful blackish pour with a nice looking tan head - looks like a very nice Impy stout. Aroma is a nice blend of strong coffee, thick cream, heavy roasted and even burnt malts, plus bits of very dark & strong fruit, chocolate, and alcohol. Taste is a strong mix of heavy roasted malts, hop bitterness, espresso, chocolate, & heaviness (if that tastes like anything). Very hot - I really need to develop some patience and age a few of these. Wow. A very good brew that provides an ass-whoopin to the tongue!!! GG (1660), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 17, 2007 NorCal tasting July 07 - I wished this beer was as good as the aroma, because if it was it’d be phenomenal. Instead, it’s barely above average at best. An incredible aroma of smoke, dark chocolate, dark fruits, and an odd touch of coffee (where’d that come from?). Appearance was a deep, dark chocolatey brown with a minimal head. Mouthfeel was thin. Flavor of molasses, dark chocolate, burned raisins, coffee and a touch of alcohol. The problem I had was that the flavors were just too weak. A somewhat jumbled mishmash of flavor with nothing really harmonizing. Still, a nice beer and perhaps a bit of age can make this good beer better. douglas88 (1659), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

The aroma is full of rich chocolates, roasted malt, some yeast too. The flavor is rich, big and bold, lots of roasted malts, light alcohol, brown sugar and some light wood. Wow. An Imperial Stout if I’ve ever had one. Tasty, with am excellent mouthfeel. Creamy and full. The alcohol is so subdued. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 14, 2008 bottles from many, Pailhead, 5000, 11026 maybe a few others. defies my usual taste, but hard to get enough of this brew. Black, very oily, no head. Aroma all over the place, tons of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted grain, faint coffee. Flavor much the same. Plums, fig, raisins, chocolate, bitter cocoa, bitter grain, faint coffee, spicy hops in the finish. Thick luscious body/mouthfeel. For so much going on this is a well crafted beer. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jul 20, 2008 (Bottle) Pours dark brown, black in the glass. Small brown head. The aroma is heavily dark malty (medium roasted and light burned) with tones of dark bread, dark caramel, coffee, dark chocolate and light molasses. Undertones of dark berries and dark fruits like black cherries, black berries, blueberries, figs and prunes. There is also some room for salt liquorice, sal ammoniac, soy and new asphalt. Mild hoppy on the nose with a tiny touch of citrus. Hints of butter and vanilla. The flavour is of medium to full roasted and light to medium-burned malt with a light to medium citric and resiny hop backdrop. Lots of dark fruits and dark berries. Sal ammoniac, salt liquorice and soy are present in the flavour as well. The mouthfeel is thick; light oily, chewy, soft, smooth and a tiny bit sticky. Full, swirling body. Just fantastic.
