Commercial Description:
Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Bottle. Poured a dark black with a slight dark tan head that dissipated. Aroma of coffee, smoke, medicinal esters (faint). Taste of coffee, medicinal esters (particularly cough syrup), chocolate, more smoke. Finish of bitterness and alcohol. Mouthfeel was thick, syrupy. I thought this was more like an imperial stout than an American strong. A solid, enjoyable brew.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2009-01-23) Deep dark brown. Tan coloured small head. Roasty aroma. Full bodied palate with medium carbonation and contains warming alcohol. Roastedness, bitterness and some liquorice in taste. Bitter and roasty aftertaste.

Tashi’s house, 28/05/08. Bottle I brought back from City Beer in San Francisco. Pours an opaque extremely dark brown and looks superb. The complex aroma assaults your nose, hitting you with hints of musty old wood and musky sweat. The taste is all about the interaction of the dark bitter chocolate and coffee flavours with the wood notes. A great beer, one to sip and savour.

22oz Bottle. The top pops with almost no hiss of escaping gas. Kinda scary. I’m afraid this is flat. The pour is indeed black like oil, but doesn’t seem as thick as other motor oil mimics. Even a rough pour results in only tiny wisps and a few bubbles. Aroma is sweet and malty without much hop aroma. Some licorice, some light bitterness, but more burnt than hoppy. The first sip is a touch alcoholic, with roast and bitterness. There are hops here, but they are well buried within. The body isn’t thick, but still substantial. The beer is quality and hard to nail down in style, but not very exciting either.

Thanks xnoxhatex! Pours creamy black with a thin brown head. Intriguing aroma of vanilla, cocoa powder and coal, lesser notes of raisins. Flavor follows suit with huge amounts of wood/barrel. Tons of bittersweet cocoa powder, some vanilla, cookie and a long finishing bitterness. A lot going on here but definitely not mind blowing or extremely coherent.

Deep brown with a good sized tan head. Aroma is of scotch, caramel and chocolate. Flavor is malt, toffee, and molasses with a decent alcohol warmth.

An exceptionally dark pour with a nice thick tan head that lasts a good while. some artistic lacing. A very nice aroma offers chocolate, dark fruit and light chocolate notes. Flavor is big and aggressive with a mouth full of chocolate, coffee along with dark fruit, alcohol, anise

Chocolatey in a Hershey syrup kind of way. Subtle hints of vanilla on the finish. Very flavorful, but still quite drinkable.
