Commercial Description:
Definitely not your Dad's Wimpy 30 weight. An enormous & luscious dark ale that's as opaque and dark as the most well used motor oils.

Black. Small tan cap that quickly disappears. Big time roasty bitterness, subtle mocha, caramel. Cross an old ale and an imperial stout and end up with an Old Viscosity. Full body, balanced. Excellent.

22 oz. bottle - pours pure black with very bold aromas of smoky malts and alcohol; drinks strong and bitter and looking forward to letting my second bottle even out a little bit over the next few months 12/15/07 update - after a few months in the fridge....wow...same punch, new velvet touch

Had this on tap at Toronado - a very good beer with excellent flavor and complexity. Viscous (surprisingly), black, and oily with a tan head. Roasted malt and coffee on the aroma. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, smoke, and bourbon. Alcohol on the finish. Very enjoyable if you’re a porter/stout type of person, which I am.

Bottle at the “Drink for Charity” event at Rattle & Hum. Pours a flat black. Utterly still. Even with constant agitation, nothing resembling a head could even be forced to form. Roast, chocolate, and some dark fruit. On the nose. Man is this hot. Big glaring alcohol overpowers the thin body and makes this rather unpleasant. Roast on the finish is made a mere memory by the alcohol yet again.

Pours black with a thick tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is chocolatey, with roasted malt and caramel, oak, and vanilla. Flavor is extremely well balanced. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits. Mouthfeel is thinner than expected, but it doesn’t take away from the beer. This is deserving of a 4.

[Bottle @ Odense Tasting, 14th February 2009, remembered for Carsten BeerMouths fantastic 3 meals highend gastronomy.] Although it’s long time I’ve tasted these brewdrops I remember nothing, because it was the last beer.

220z bottle from FlacoAlto. ASA eh? Looks and initially smells more like a stout. Lets give it a shot. Definitely lots of roasted malt and dark chocolate. Much more of a malt forward ASA. The hops are hiding on the nose but make an appearance on the palate. Pours fairly rich dark brown, almost black with a creamy brown head. Rich, creamy and mostly full bodied on the tongue. Lots of bitter roasted malt, charred vanilla, grassy hops, medium toasted oak and alcohol. Not a hotness per se, but a pleasant warming bourbon note. Excellent right now, but I think this one could be better in a year or two. Thanks Sebastian!

Cocoa, and chocolate covered fruit dominate the aroma, like opening a box of cordials and taking a whiff, takes on a slight port like quality as the alcohol starts coming off, body is huge and thick, no head to speak of,taste starts like Black Forest cake, delicious and chewy with slight molasses, and cake batter in the middle and a nice hop bitterness in finish. Stunning in all repects, wonderful label, will have a standing order for this at all times
